There seem to remember having read, during my research that Stephen King is strangely frightened by infatuation, sometimes fanatic, that can cause his novels. The history of Misery is that ultimately, that of a writer prisoner of unconditional love and irrational as his door "biggest fan". And it works! A closed session to writing perfectly mastered and which, far from serving the novel, brings him instead full force. Because no, despite two (almost) unique characters, you do not mind, quite the contrary; King invites the reader to become the second sequestered ... Then installs a true underlying anxiety that, as the pages turn, takes a magnitude of more confusing. King succeeds in taking us to the paroxysm of fear at the most unexpected times. In the manner of a film, we are surprised to panic at the mere idea that our hero can be pinned in full escape attempt. It's probably that talent, succeed in creating a sense of oppression even as the danger is removed temporarily!
Physical and psychological torture, addiction, survival instinct, the full range of excellent thriller (so to speak). For the first time in my life, I had to put my hand on the lines of some pages to use "my breath" and minimize the effect of surprise before continuing my reading!
Misery, undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of the Master to put all (good) hands!
