I wonder what right can claim that Anne Goscinny René father would have been proud of "buyers" of the series. Having never worked with his father, or even with Albert Uderzo, she has no more legitimacy to assert this as any anonymous reader of Asterix (except its rights colossal authors, of course!). On another note, it should be noted that Sylvie Uderzo is still on trial with his father, accusing the entourage of the latter to take advantage of him (always with colossal gains to the key). Apparently the succession of Asterix has not finished shedding of ink ...
Besides, if René Goscinny had survived, no one can say if it would have perpetuated the adventures of the famous Gauls until today. Perfectionist, his genius and his typical humor of the sixties and to a lesser extent the seventies could he continue to speak without falling into self-parody? Very clever who could tell!
But back to our sheep (Highland) coverage is not very successful. The Obelix arm movement to launch the trunk is totally improbable. Moreover Obelix is right-handed and left-handed on the cover box 7 page 27 when it launches the same trunk! In Asterix in Brittany (masterpiece!), The Scottish are called Caledonians and Picts here, why this change? The graphic stylization of runic Pictish word of coverage is rather ugly.
At recurring unavoidable in the series, the passage with pirates shamefully sloppy: more Latin quotations, over wooden legs or Creole accent, the stylized profanity barely flared, everything goes!
I noted a geographical impossibility: I know how Mc Colloch (lumberjack physical) could go to state icicle, Loch Ness (freshwater loch) to the sea, then drift down Armorican coasts?
A good point though: drawing Didier Conrad is quite successful when it is confined to reproduce the known characters and archetypes of the series. However trouble finding creativity Uderzo to design new characters: drawing the hibernatus Oloch Mac is totally missed (more at home in Lanfeust De Troy) and contributes significantly to the mediocrity of the album (his visions icicle pages 6.7 and 8 are a bad taste festival), we regret the superb Tragicomix in lovesick. With its putrid complexion, the character of Vincent Cassel Abbeh-Mac is not bitten worms either! Conrad was unfortunately not the Uderzo paw to draw women (see the sublime Falbala in Asterix the Legionary).
Ridiculous level again, the Loch Ness monster (the AFNOR standard) drives the point! It is also pretty pumped about the diplodocus Du Voyageur Mesozoic thirteenth album of Spirou and Fantasio.
The screenplay by Jean-Yves Ferri is disappointing rather a preparatory draft and dialogue and puns are often appalling, not to mention the rumbling based on songs by the Beatles or Bee Gees.
Lovers of Scotland, which I humbly belong, may be strong (William Augustus?) Disappointed after reading this album. The majesty of the Scottish scenery here is totally gone by the wayside, the authors favoring instead a folklore junk.
This album blows hot and cold like a cold shower, but I would like that this criticism be constructive and that the series finds its former splendor (the authors have the option, especially Didier Conrad).
Many people appreciate this album yet (often occasional buyers) and if he found it fun, great! But I do not think junkies series are very satisfied with this chore.
Errare humanum est!
