Kevin J. Anderson, the butcher of DUNE (books in the world of literature with the son of Dune Frank Herbert) embarked on this purely SF series in a work this time totally personal. We must recognize that he put the package, stellar empires, aliens, political intrigues, wars and genocides. The story begins after the merger of a Jovian world to provide light and heat to its moons and make them habitable, reveals that it was inhabited by a secret race, hydrogues. It starts strong, alas Kevin by making use of the famous (too) multiple narration (everyone talks about, so we know all) weakens his story by explaining too much, too fast, at the expense of the quality of his characters. It must be really good to live beautiful characters when they clutter the book at this point. In the absence of grip you get bored pretty quickly and we no longer read that kind of history book. This story next to the future can be interesting, but do not stick with my reading desires. 2.5 stars
