1990 is indeed far back, but VIOLATOR is from my memory probably bestproduzierte album of his time. An ideal combination and synthesis of sound, sound and song. Every song, from WORLD IN MY EYES, shows the subtle nuances with which the album is perfectly mixed and balanced. Each chorus, every bridge and verse fit just made for each other. While there were many who Depeche Mode then accused her pieces have become unimaginative and simplistic - even Martin Gore would now have already doubled singing verses (Personal Jesus), but what else could DM at that time for a character set to. A brilliant sounding album with catchy melodies (Enjoy The Silence) as they can not do better. Gore's spring are then also so great songs like Blue Dress, CLEAN or the 'duet' with Dave WAITING FOR THE NIGHT sprung that go just under the skin. Today probably no one would make the class of VIOLATOR in question, an album that the videos, an identification and presence of Depeche Mode also thanks to Anton Corbijn and with it, which is still unbroken.
