Less unusual for It Do not Mean A Thing, that Young Blood has everything from promotional album (young guns, this "new blood" ...). Nevertheless, it is a beautiful album that we will not fail to obtain if one is both a fan and drummer interested in the evolution of the saxophonist. Alongside them will be found George Mraz (bass) and Nicholas Payton (trumpet) and Javon Jackson (tenor sax with young we hear more talk too much ...). The interpretation of "Angel Eyes" is very successful. The directory, we would have suspected, consists essentially of standards (Body And Soul, Lady Luck, Angel Eyes, My Romance). On Ding-A-Ling-A-Ding (track 4), Elvin plays absolute solo. For drummers, it will be quite a slap. But when tumbling Lady Luck, it borders the disaster. The blowing sound like ducks stuck in a pool limp and slimy ...
In short, it is frankly unconvincing. Payton is green, just ripe, and Redman same. Yet they are trying to get by, to offer some ideas, but nothing notable, must be acknowledged. On "My Romance", the absolute duet between Jones and Mraz is very interesting but not convincing, unfortunately. "The Biscuit Man" brings us back to the era of the '40s bop ensembles Frankly, I do not see the point of playing these parts, unless musician and wanting to be sweaty. If you like the bop (in my case), we will not need to listen to this cake; and it will focus more disk Tadd Dameron and Fats Navarro, Bud Powell, Charlie Parker or Dizzy Gillespie and. This type of business (bop revival-or post-bop), very fashionable then, is unfortunately only a rehash. The kind of Elvin Jones disk committed, history Redman and Payton out of school desks ... We can still listen.
