For me it is CE disk that is the REAL Storytone. The other disc (the normal version) is rather a bonus, lacks the raw power of this solo cake.
The singer has a fragile voice and guitarist does not try too prowess in picking. But there is a force in those interpretations which prove that the interpreter, if he wrinkled face and gray hair becoming rarer, still has a real conviction in his art.
Unlike others, I do not find the Neil Young's Harvest, a disc where the pieces were more leches and also fundamentally "juvenile". I see more melancholy Young Journey Through The Past, without delusions Jack Nitsche.
The songs are almost all poignant and evocative of the great years of the Canadiens. Without provided "remake."
After the excellent Croz Crosby, Young shows that it is far from being a past glory.
Now add to that an album with versions "accompanied" the same songs, with either a symphony orchestra or a big band / rock band (how "This Note's For You").
And these revised versions have nothing artificial, even when they are a little clumsy (Say Hello To Chicago), they add new facets to acoustic versions (ex .: All Those Dreams or Tumbleweed with the phrase "I ' m glad I've found you "seems to refer directly to his current experience).
Wonderful!
You expect nothing old Neil?
You should be wary.
