Tales From Serpentia (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Progressive Metal, made in Germany - which promises quality! Especially when a band from the dance of countless breaks Dream Theater freeloaders and helping to revitalize an entire genre, modernize and to drive forward - as Tomorrow's Eve! The have the latest with Mirror Of Creation 2 - worked their Genesis II to the national and international spearhead of progressive metal.

This monster album would be hard to beat, that was clear. And yet, the Saarland, who between geschnuppert professional tour air annexed by Circle II Circle, with "Tales From Serpentia" establish very high up and let fans of groups such as Circus Maximus, Mind's Eye, Andromeda or Vanden Plas virtually no choice and Tomorrow's Eve included in the illustrious circle of their favorites.

But the band also sounds on their fourth studio album again very own. The sound of Tomorrow's Eve is marked by hard and dark riffing of enthralling, almost hypnotic atmospheres, an enormously powerful and technically high-class rhythmic foundation. There's been anything that may well be. But their individual strength is the combination of everything that makes Prog Metal as worth hearing and a refined heavy metal content ...

A unique feature is the harmony of keyboard and guitar. The celebrations here a creative festival of small and large, brilliantly intertwined melodies, alternate in the foreground and the companion roll off, play in parallel, and sometimes at breakneck precision, creating common tense harmonies and rhythmic complex yet straightforward preschende forward Drives.

And also in the songwriting makes the guys in front of a little thing. Most in the six-minute range to move the detail-pieces that are full of surprises and go at the same time very directly into the ear. Straight and heavy, yet very technical and 'verproggt' in the style of Symphony X or Evergrey therefore the verses come, or with crackling exciting Clean Guitar arpeggios in the style of Queensryche. The energy discharges breath at atmospheric, floating choruses.

Tomorrow's Eve working quite excellent with opposites: primeval reef monsters transformed within seconds into anmutvoll floating goosebumps numbers and vice versa. The common thread is not lost; short and long suspense work seamlessly together. Longer be excited among others in "Remember", which reminds including piano part to a Savatage-power ballad. Even more epic comes the almost musical way-theatrical "The Tower" Therefore, in the band in seven minutes of different tempos, rhythms, moods and atmospheres abfackelt a true Prog Metal-fireworks. Sounds all too complex, but comes with fabulous effect spell directly into your brain!

Not innocent mind are the consistently exceptional expansive melodies. Singer Martin LeMar, by the way recently entered even in the ultra-Proggern Mekong Delta, the melody is emotional and powerful light. His charisma is one of the main hallmarks of the band - a living copy!

How could it be otherwise: "From Serpentia Takes" is a concept album, and - how to love it as prog-Head - not too simple one. Basically it's about a protagonist who is dahingesiecht half his life as a junkie. The name of the fictitious drug, which he shares with his girlfriend: Serpentia. He is going away, they did not - the relationship bursts with a huge crash. The past catches up with the protagonist one, as occurred to him one day while cleaning up loose leaves in the hand - there are stories that he then drugged, encouraged by his girlfriend, wrote.

The Tracks 2 through 10 as these short stories. They are each separately -. And yet the writer always recognizes in his gloomy tales and their subtle messages warnings to themselves The intro "Nightfall" and the almost 20-minute finale "Muse" span a framework - the 'true' story to the two, beyond the short stories. At the end the protagonist meets back together with his ex. As it turns out, but will not reveal here. Only this: This is not a love story ...

Exciting as the threads in "Muse" converge - to understand the basis of the recorded voice of actors speaking parts that reveal again how the boundaries between fiction and reality ... an intelligent psychological puzzle about human abysses and shortcomings, whose voltage curve awesome is supported by the music! Therefore is "Tales Of Serpentia" true art - an album in which one is immersed deep.
