I want to speak on this twelfth volume because some opinions seem to me quite questionable. The saga of the Iron Throne is extraordinary, with a hallucinating wealth and characters with a depth and complexity awesome. Good and evil are notions that really have their place in this context, the surprise effects are legion, and the strength of political intrigue is incredible. But ... but things began to settle since the end of Volume 9, which was an end in triumph followed by a story arc abandoning the characters that were followed avidly until then to turn to something else. Hence an obvious frustration for the reader, especially as new volumes proved addictive and far less eventful. Except ... except that we must put in the head once and for all that Martin advance ITS pace in SA saga, and he is right.
This tome 12 proves that he knows what he does, and he meticulously puts pawns for a suite that is likely to Dantesque see how things are. Better, Volume 12 finally returns to the big shots bursts the previous cycle, and I ended up devouring literally, which had not happened since the purple wedding. There has incredible revelations in this volume as well as a turnaround that alone justifies reading this new episode.
This feast for crows revives what Martin can do better, and there is more to tremble pending further because it will be terrible, obviously.
