When I write this review, it is the band U2 for 33 years - in this time is a lot happening. Were influenced by punk beginnings, so traveled on the band over the years and so-called next new wave splashes, lots of blues, R & B and Soul in their sound on. The most interesting thing I found, however its probably the most radical break with the electronic rock album "Achtung Baby". It is still one of my favorite albums and next to the magnificent music that is on this work, even the appearance of the band was a new one. At the time, Bono pendulum tete yet skillfully between Rock Business and irony, created next to, leather-clad rock star with flying sunglasses, the fictional character Macphisto. Whenever I see the concerts and music videos this time, so I think of a really great band that was then in its zenith ...
Zooropa:
This album was recorded during the ZOO TV tour and was supposed to appear only as an EP. Since, however, accumulated a large number of songs, it was decided ultimately an entire album to make out of it - Good idea!
The sound picks up where "Achtung Baby" was finished and yet are the two albums together somehow. When I heard "Zooropa" the first time, I was a bit disillusioned, because I was so impressed by the predecessor and even today I am of the opinion that it is not easy to digest. The classic foreign body on the plate for me is the oblique, "Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car". This song is in the middle of the album, and if one should run out of steam here, you miss Unfortunately a wonderful sprint with intoxicating songs like "The First Time" and, sung by Johnny Cash "The Wanderer". Overall I would say that represents "Zooropa" not necessarily a thoroughly closed album like "The Joshua Tree" or just "Achtung Baby". On the other hand it is a very "mature" work and also when it grows only after repeated listening, it is nevertheless voiced by some, as the direct successor to "Pop", on which the band dared too much for me.
Highlights are next to the opener "Zooropa", the monotone acting "Numb", the pop song "Lemon" and "Stay" and the aforementioned pieces.
CONCLUSION:
For me, the "almost" perfect symbiosis of rock and electronic. However, no work of a piece like "Achtung Baby". Nevertheless, if I had to say when I found U2 best, so I would think long without saying - 91-93 - THANK YOU!
