It is also very romantic, but never mawkish. Marcus Sedgwick combines historical contexts (Viking, 2nd World War) to a fantastic fantasy (ghost, vampire etc.). And it is frankly stunning. I loved losing myself through time, through encounters and anecdotes around the same couple that continues to cross, and then end up getting lost. It's like listening to a story by the fireside, with flickering shadows on the walls, which are delicious shudder. You feel like spellbound!
