I bought this router to two devices to be replaced by a - a 5GHz WLAN bridge consisting of a transmitter (AP) and a receiver (Bridge) was and still a Gigabit Switch between.
The basic installation / configuration of LAN's first presented no problems. The Asus router is behind a router Speedport 701V hanged in wireless router / IP Sharing mode, which also went without any problems of equip. The functioning routing the Internet a total of 2 routers should be emphasized as particularly positive here mE. The activation of the 2.4Ghz WLANS took place without any problems. Tethered Internet access d. WLAN radio, printer and mobile phone via 2.4Ghz wireless worked flawlessly now.
Problems arose but then the setup of the wireless bridge in the 5 GHz network. Blame for the problems should uA be the GUI software of Asus because it indicates connected clients sometimes and sometimes not, which does not mean that they are not connected when he does not show. * Augenverdreh * And even if the devices connected via the WLAN bridge appear once in the list, so he shows indeed verscheidene IPs for verschiednene devices, but there assigns each of IPs then only the MAC address of the bridge itself to instead of MAC addresses of there actually connected and matching the IP devices. Good that you can assign a specific IP in the DHCP settings manually a MAC address. It works but still why you have to start from a display / recognition errors here. Must be observed when using the AP / Bridge is the right choice of authentication and encryption method for the 5GHz network: This must be WPA2-Personal / AES! Then klappts :)
So since Asus has again definitely do some bug-fixing since the search / update the connected clients takes forever and often does not display the desired result. An over LAN connected and functioning NAS is not at all given to me, for example, in the client list - for whatever reason.
But a bit awkward but better is the possibility of MAC address filtering, which should be recognized for the LAN settings in the LAN and WLAN for 2.4Ghz and 5GHz WLAN network in the WLAN settings separately for each network. For each network, you can differentiate between the "Accept" or "Reject" mode select - is then bound to say you can not at the same time allow specific MAC addresses and blocking others still, which he of course then automatically in the "Accept" mode which does not just accepted in the list.
If the router is set up but first you can really benefit from a fantastic speed. As fast as my Netztwerk was previously at least not - neither LAN or WLAN. He is, however, really quite warm even though it is not particularly required degree. Whether that's good in the long run will then be shown.
Firmware updates can also be simple and easy import. A link leads directly to the even matching Asus download page. The router with firmware version 1.0.1.7c, a firmware update to the latest firmware version 1.0.1.7f was delivered but should definitely be carried out, since div. Things have been fixed.
All in all, however, met the router its acquisition-purpose and with a truly leading-edge performance.
FTP / Media Server / iTunes / USB & CO have not been tested because of no interest to me :)
