Le Clan des Nocturnes Volume 1: Jacob (Paperback)

Customer Review

Having felt the need to change some reading lately I wondered if it would do since it was question of demons, and that I had enjoyed the Demonica series, or I can say that I have absolutely not been disappointed and it is imperative that one so the idea of the head! Stop comparing one series to another, stopping to see similarities where one of the topics discussed there is, every author has his world, his style, and that this is no exception to the rule.

These demons have nothing in common with those of Demonica, except perhaps an irresistible sexual ardor and destructive at one time of their life here twice a year, the festival of Beltane and Samhain, the pagan festivals celebrated at the coming of spring and autumn, but the comparison ends there. Our demons are more subtle and nuanced, finer psychologically, everything appears to us more Manichean. they are Nocturnes like vampires and werewolves, but the sun is not fatal to them, they just prefer the silver star under which they flourish. But a curse strung to this star, destroying the beauty of their being to make room for their animal, multiplying their need for procreation. In response to protect weak human creatures of these adverse effects, they struggle in order not to be hounded by the incorruptible Jacob, the executor and the arm of the law of King Noah.

Our demons are very close to nature from which they derive their powers that make beings apart here 6 elementary castes, whose gifts are manifested differently depending on their sex and act as the beings on elements . They are stunning, intelligent and elegant, fundamentally attached to their laws and very inclined toward their belief in Destiny. They fear Jacob and it has never yielded to the impulses of his race since 4 centuries it exercises this function which makes a lonely full of honor and principles, uncompromising with himself mostly, which does not make him a far from being insensitive!

These demons are united by deep affection, they have a code of honor and respect humanity may seem quite trivial considering the complexity of their fascinating nature and we enter their world, the more we wonder what sense bring demonic word, moreover they all bear biblical names ... Their way of moving made me think of Chinese Ghost Stories, awakening in me the magic of my childhood dreams, thinking of Jacob as Selene Underworld perched on its prey, landing smoothly on his long legs ...

Since time immemorial they feared the Druids and sorcerers who by invocations could alienate one of them to make it their puppet, but times have changed as a disappearance of his last and demons have found peace on until new witches appear and invoke one of them! It is in these dark conditions despite himself Jacob saves the life of Isabella, a frail human but with strange abilities that are amplified in contact with the devil. It is small and 'petite but she's a fighter with a strong character, not devoid of humor and humor. She is intelligent and shows a remarkable alertness, and its apparent fragility makes it endearing. The attraction is irresistible, immediate, going against all the taboos and laws that govern the long life of our executioner. It is a puzzle for those of his race, but far from rejecting it, our demons take it under their wing and try to decipher the mysteries it generates in spite of herself. And if it was just the helping hand that fate has placed in their way? It is a whole upheaval in their rules made for ages it will revolutionize, but it is also a new sentimental canvas that will loom before us, and not only or necessarily an attraction based on sex that we will discover.

I know that many do not appreciate the magic and poetry of the saga of the Lords of the Carpathians Christine Feehan, which is not my case, I found much gold this sweetness interspersed with exclusive passion between two people which lie with Jacob and Isabella. Even if they are hopelessly attracted to each other from the start, you feel the change in their relationship through the strange and inexorable link between them, it is more than fusion. Their feelings are developed to suit their deep feelings and not because of their sexual desire is a true communion of two beings who perceive the inner self of the other, probably accentuated by the story that describes what they feel one after the other at the same time, plunging us immediately into their privacy at the same time.

Each contact their body is still filled with sensuality, tenderness and respect, passion and poetry, magic-related words they whisper, a look, a caress, everything is disorder, heart beat . It is jealousy, condescension, protection and fury exacerbated by a bestial instinct of territoriality, it is full of sweetness and attention, respect and restraint so as not to bruise, it is compassionate, understanding, gentle and warm, it is his half. Between them all is sensual beauty breathtaking!

For once, I don 't étalerai about the plot because I know that others will do it and the surprise will be even more enjoyable but I want to emphasize here that I could feel deep my gut and that has nothing to do with the substance of the story that I enjoyed, really, and I must say that, besides the pleasant style of the author, also will push me to throw myself on the action this series. For we have a new universe combining magic demons and necromancers prophecy for a race that declines, hopes, doubts, deep well skinned characters psychologically, engaging and charismatic, captivating. And we want to know the history of some of them ... Gideon, Legna, Noah, Elijah ...

I still have to report that I regret not being able to read in VO since, especially in the beginning, I sometimes had the impression that the translation was feverish, as if the richness of what we delivered the author was difficult to transcribe and therefore few sentences seemed to me meaningless. Still, the pleasure I have felt has not suffered, and I hope it will be as intense for the next volume. A first volume more than encouraging, superb emotions, an author I will follow closely.
