The Chouans ... On a frame cleverly combines history and politics, it is one of the first and most famous books of the realist novelist Honoré de Balzac.
History therefore takes place in 1799, shortly after the French Revolution that still remains at the heart of all the spirits that Bonaparte was then First Consul. This fight fervently against "the whole Europe" (royalties Europe specifically) and also faces auxRoyalistes, named Chouans in the West of France ...

The plot of the novel is based on some main characters who, through their travels, testify opponents ideals Republicans and Chouans and civil war inflaming France. To break down the rebels chouans Fouche then Police Minister, sends Mary Verneuille young passionate and desperate woman with well-kept secrets, seduce the leader of Royalists, the young Marquis de Montauran. Will follow consuming passion, inflamed hatred, awareness meetings, bloody battles, betrayal, remorse, love, madness and desolation ... The story does not lack surprises, however, events are moving at high speed, taking the reader to the heart of a romantic drama about a bottom (very present) of civil war.

The Chouans, whose plot of the novel grabs the reader will sometimes tend to look a bit blurry. The sequence of ups and downs, the many characters, the passage from the perspective of a protagonist to another, flipping inappropriate situations ... Lots of little elements that are often able to wander too eager reader. But do not forget that the novel, written in 1828, must have a literary style of its own, to him and his time. These fuzzy light that sometimes occur have their charm as they remind of without difficulty, like vocabulary and turns of phrase used, the origin of the novel.

A novel that is pleasant to read. Carried away by history, there is no doubt that readers will enjoy the talent of Balzac.
Note however that this book, though a bit different from what we find in Balzac brilliantly, is still part of The Human Comedy.
