Diagnosed with cancer, Campbell knows she will die soon. The disease spreads, there is nothing more to do. The teenager has lost all hope of recovery: only a miracle could save her but now, Cam does not. His mother and sister decided to take him to Promise, a small town where miraculous acts would occur, so she can see that miracles do exist!
I must say that reading the summary of the back cover, I was torn: I read it a few months ago, I want to live Jenny Downham and I found two very similar summaries. Several opinions have comforted me, both novels were apparently very different, so I started without fear in this reading.
The history of Campbel moved me a lot: how could it be otherwise? Heroin is endearing. Without self-pity, she accepted her fate and her family would like to do the same. Yet the novel by Wendy Wunder is an ode to hope. The author reminds us that everything around us is a miracle be, thanks to the character of Perry, the little sister of Cam. I really liked her and her list of miracles that happen every day, "a handsome boy offers us a home," "see flamingos settle outside of their natural habitat." I was touched by this family: Campbell who knows that death is inevitable and trying to prepare his entourage at his death, Perry and Alicia, their mother, who want to believe in a miracle.
Yet it was not won, I must confess that the first fifty pages made me a little scared. The style was heavy, I did not understand everything: lots of allusions to Disney parks I have not found very useful. Sometimes certain people gave nicknames to heroin and I admit to not having all seized between Cayum and Samoa, I would have liked a little explanation. I must say that the lack of description of the characters was a little embarrassed. To me, some details have not been fully exploited, I have wanted to know more. The two or even three blank pages between each chapter will have frustrated me even more: it was space that could have been filled!
In summary, once past the beginning, I was not able to let go of the girl who did not believe in miracles, a novel smooth and full of hope that is sure to pull your tears!
