A self-contained plant

The first Garbage album was already a stroke of luck by the clever mix of rock elements, a little dark sound, critical and sometimes almost cynical lyrics. This album should now get a successor who received the title "Version 2.0". And the sounds at first like a continuation of the first album, but far from it. Garbage developed their sound under the direction of the gifted Butch Vig a big step forward and there was an unconventional, dynamic and partly dreamy hodgepodge of songs that everyone develop their power for themselves, but also as a complete package. As a starter serve "Temptation Waits", which makes you want more directly (by the way also on the soundtrack for the series "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" included). And this desire is more than satisfied by the hit single "I Think I'm Paranoid". After the first three fast numbers is the first "ballad", which of course is not set, called "Medication". The song shines first of thoughtfulness, which increases the chorus in despair. After that, only turned up once again with "Special" and "Hammering In My Head"; but the latter also contains a beautiful slow Bridge that makes turning the mood of the song for a short time. "Push It", which was released with a very bizarre, but metaphorically quality video, drives to a new peak. At last the long-awaited follow slow-motion song "The Trick Is To Keep Breathing", which can be fully enjoy only with his eyes closed. At the latest at this point it is noticeable that after 3 Uptemposongs always follows a slow, since "Dumb," "Sleep Together" and "Wicked Ways" hit again slightly harder sound. The perfect finish has "You Look So Fine" by far one of the greatest songs of garbage at all, which offers a lot of feeling and pain.
Cynics might perhaps say that the album is overproduced because every song really sits to the last note, and you can not find a flaw, but this is no longer the case at the latest on the second pass. Shirley Manson's unique voice leads through emotional ups and downs of the songs and making them more interesting and worth listening to. Garbage have managed to create their own style, which is not classic rock, even punk and certainly not typical Pop, the unfortunately increasingly falls to the mainstream, but a skillful combination of the best elements of various styles, combined with the talent of outstanding musicians and the magic of Shirley Manson, the always enthusiastic. All in all, true through and through with this album the Vibe, and the songs are interesting and varied, even years after the publication still.
