I Hunt Killers (Hardcover)

Customer Review

As a fan of thrillers and sought mainly to John Cleaver books by Dan Wells and Jeff Lindsay's Dexter I long for something comparable. And with 'I Hunt Killers' finally starts a new series, which deals with exactly the subject that I find interesting: Someone who has the urge to kill people, but in its own way is fighting against it. Of course, the three authors allow their protagonists all deal in different ways with it and even the backgrounds are fundamentally different, so that comes in no way boring.

Even the idea of Barry Lyga I found a complete success. Jazz is the son of a serial killer, and thus has a major drawback: Everyone knows who he is and expects only the fact that he soon commits his first murder, or he is equal to the very top in an assassination on the suspect list.

This inner struggle, the self-doubt of Jazz to be just like his father grabbed me literally and never let go. I love to penetrate into the head of a young person and to learn what is going on in this. And as strange as it may sound, perhaps: but you can jazz the urge to kill actually empathize. Barry Lyga describes his feelings so deeply, so detailed that one wonderful can empathize with his personality and not only sympathize with his fears, but also those same thread that seems to attract him, who wants to draw him into a certain direction, he does not want to take.

But not only this part was interesting and exciting to follow, but also the fact of how other people deal with it, behave towards him with the knowledge that he is the son of a serial killer. That there are among them such and such is clear, but I was Jazz's best friend immediately enthusiastic. A friend who stands him in everything aside and also always makes for a laugh or two.

And what would a thriller without the occasional murder ?! Of course, here also something is not missing. Although for me was pretty clear on what the whole will result in who and what the motives are perpetrators, but that did not detract from the power done absolutely, I have always been captivated by the events anyway.

With 'I Hunt Killers' Barry Lyga is a brilliant beginning of a series succeeded which is to my liking. Fascinating and unique characters in an exciting story that you get so rarely offered in the thriller genre. I hope we get a lot more from Jazz to read.
