In my research on the live traffic services I found the Garmin Nuvi 3598LMT EU-D, which 3D Traffic Live via DAB + (Digital Radio) promises. This service is offered for life for the 3598, as well as the EU map updates. Since the device was not yet available at Amazon recently I bought it from a dealer who could provide already.
The first impression is positive. High-quality metal casing, touch glass display, as known from her smartphone. The holder per magnet fixed by itself and turns automatically a. That's well done. The power cord has a receiver and is thus deviate slightly thick. Without the 12V cable, the nüvi can receive traffic information. It is an additional wire antenna provided, but (thankfully) not absolutely necessary.
The necessary preparatory work as PC connection, update, etc. operate smoothly (Windows 7). The full EU cards require, however, a 4 GB SD card, you must also purchase (without this work the voice control not).
The Navi launches quickly. Voice input and Bluetooth connection function quickly and easily. I particularly like that you can create and select after entering the destination route suggestions. You can check the traffic situation spaciously on a map and include in the route selection. I am ever driven about 2000 km by Navi and has had no discernible error in the navigation. The map display is colorful, but clearly. The announcements are easy to understand. The lane assistant and the realistic junction display is good in metropolitan areas, in remote areas a bit thin. The map display has an optional zoom function, depending on the speed of the map display zooms larger or smaller.
The display of traffic hold-ups work well so far. However, I was up dto. Mainly in urban areas go. Twice a jam has been displayed reliably on a side track and an alternative route was worked out.
I miss a display on the screen, whether DAB + is active. It would be good to know if I have digital radio reception.
In the display modes optimized POIs are permanently displayed. I feel as too big and distracting. Also, I do not need the information permanently, where the nearest restaurant is located. Unfortunately, given POIs can not be hidden. I called the support: That's not possible. For me this is a clear disadvantage. (Maybe someone has a tip on how to do it yet?)
Even more disadvantageous I feel the warning of exceeding the speed limit. These logs have an audible warning when exceeding 1 km / h. That's annoying. You can not adjust to eg 5 km / h is exceeded. They can only be switched off. This programming policy I do not understand.
Overall, this is a successful, high-quality Navi for me. It would be nice if my main criticisms can be addressed by an update.
One more note: A navigation system with such a wealth of settings is of course a small computer. If you get a new computer, you need a training period they have to schedule.
