I have the first part of recently completed and can therefore compare the two parts quite well with each other, by now more than 20 hours of play at the 2nd Mass Effect.
Comparing to part one I want to anticipate, before I get to the pros and cons of the game.
After a few hours of play you realize already that the game has become clear Action-packed, unfortunately at the expense of the RPG elements. This is especially evident in mind that many of the already explored places you can not visit again, which in the first part was possible. Also you will be at the end of a mission immediately transferred to the Normandy, without having to cover the way to the ship itself, as was the case in Mass Effect 1. The firefights have become significantly longer and more demanding. The story is still propagated the same, only with new opponents. Furthermore, some cutscenes are now no longer held solely in gaming graphics. They were created specifically for a scene to look better. The graphics have improved my reputation after only slightly. The load times have become significantly longer. It now has more companions available. And the entire trade and upgrade system has been revised.
So much for the differences. So as not to be even more comprehensive, I'm going to write for the advantages and disadvantages just bullet points.
Benefits:
- No long elevator rides more, instead here's a loading screen,
- More companions,
- Improved combat system (key assignment, issue of orders for companions)
- An authentic-looking Normandy,
- Scanner system for planets to collect raw materials,
- Improved map browser, with% display of solar systems,
- Action-packed battles,
- Improved Hack system
- DLCs
Disadvantages:
- Omission reinforced RPG elements from Part 1,
- Still propagated some minor graphical glitches,
- No more exploring with the MALT,
- Some explored places no longer accessible
Finally still something for Action and RPG. Many of the armored RPG elements of part one crashed with the Normandy at the beginning of Mass Effect 2. This includes, for example. The reconnaissance tour by MALT. Granted with the time it was boring, but some planets were really nice. Also in the fight, a lot has changed. One regenerate much more quickly and requires the Medigel only to fallen comrades to get back. Unrealistic to me and reminds me more of Call of Duty. Most annoying for me but still, I can not re-visit already explored planet. The discontinuation of these RPG elements is for me the reason for the omission of the 5th star.
I can understand that BioWare wanted to make the game for the masses, and this just goes only with more action. Why then, however, the freedom the player had to be eingeschränk, I can not understand. Together they would have made the game perfectly. Games like Call of Duty unfortunately show that the mass of people more to Action is held on RPG. And rather amusing entertainment instead seeks profound experiences and identification with the character. Mass Effect 2 creates luckily still a balance between action and RPG. I just hope that the 3rd part is not even further away from the first, and still less RPG offers. Otherwise he might be the disappointment.
One more thing about the DLCs. They are not cheap, but I have done my two. Shadow Broker and Kasumi the thief. For the short play time a lot of money, but told well and an asset to the game. Would be nice if there were more free DLCs, which may also have a good quality.
