An average LG intermediate model, unfortunately, some technical weaknesses!

LG comes with 49 UB 856V 3D Smart TV, which appear attractively priced.
At first, you might feel that it was all off, you need. We just are in a transitional phase and UHD because a device is future-proof. Unfortunately, the weaknesses of the LG fall on only at a second glance. In the course of this text, we learn why.

First, the device are included 2 remote controls. A "normal" remote control (which was older models illuminated times - saving measure) and a Magic Remote transmitter, which works similar to a laser pointer.
Passive 3D glasses are also included.

The initial installation runs the wizard BEAN BIRD quite funny and entertaining. Faster the satellite scan does not work anyway. The automatic station sorting is not that great. At least the Astra UHD test station is received.

Very few will be satisfied with the station sorting, so my tip:

Free program "Chansort" on PC Download (see Google).
Export After tuning the channel list on the TV to a USB stick.
(Menu -> menu item "Quick" -> "tuning" -> Sender copy -> TV on USB)
Edit the exported file with Chansort on the PC and then copy this file to the assorted TV back.

Now the most important thing - the image quality (2D). First is gratifying that the TV can be ISF calibrated and offers a complete color management. Thus ever to come the best conditions for the possibility of a color-neutral image. The image quality of the tuner turns out in SD and HD in very good quality, of course, depending on the source material, because it is not all gold that is broadcast by the broadcasters. The format switching works flawlessly. Fast panning and scrolling text displays not blur with proper TV setting. The local dimming works well. Black is black. Halos and cloudy, there is only when one has caught a "bad" Monday device. The colors are extremely naturally without outshine and white thanks to ISF calibration without color cast! Even difficult grayscale are neutral in color (important for black / white films) but these results you only get when you calibrate the screen.

As a basic setting, I recommend the following values. With Burosch test images can be recalibrated perfect, then the manufacturing tolerances are involved - resulting in an even more perfect result! For more tips on my webpage.

Brief mention: The 3D image reproduction is similar to a good level. Thanks to passive technology systemic flickers nothing. The handling is with passive glasses anyway a lot better! Although it is claimed, the active 3D to bring better quality, but that is bought with flickering (expensive shutter glasses) and nervigem handling. (Charge batteries, provide perfect glasses Synronisation etc.)

Disappointing: When testing a UHD clips at 60 frames per second, there were only images and sound on HDMI port number 3. Also in the operating instructions should be noted that only 3 HDMI input to HDMI 2.0. Specifications corresponds!

Update 13/02/2015: With the delivery of firmware I had the condition described above. After update now seem all 4 inputs to HDMI specifications 2.0. to comply. Since there is no real UHD Bluray feed source, I assume that nevertheless no HDR and HFR support the TV, but this is to support the next model series. In this respect, there still nothing to alter the reality that is not future proof this device, aside from the outdated display technology. A current device should have and Direct-LED no longer Edge LED. (Update end)

HEVC Test Clips were via USB 3.0. this LG leaked. During the 10 UHD test clips were played on competing smart TVs without any problem, the LG refused here and there several UHD clips, which suggests that were implemented the UHD specifications sketchy, but this is a typical, but annoying appearance of an intermediate model.

At the sound does not expect miracles. The larger LG models sound better because they have a small subwoofer. More than easily understandable message tone does not come out of this model. When listening to music channels come here hardly joy, but this is a general flat problem. With extra extra loudspeakers can remedy this.

Is controlled this LG model with WebOS operating system version 1.0. The operation goes in the right direction, but provides the WebOS 2.0 available soon. significantly more performance and is faster when processing commands. HbbTV and the LG-typical premium services including apps are also back on board. Unfortunately, many apps are influenced by advertising interruptions, which greatly annoys when using.
UHD YouTube clips, which are offered in UHD resolution are played only in Full HD, although enough Internet Performance would be ready. This is annoying and should and likely on a UHD TV not really be so. The sometimes slow WebOS control, mentioned weaknesses and the annoying commercial breaks with the apps are points deduction in the evaluation.

All in all, the concept of LG indeed in the right direction, but the 856er is an intermediate model.
So it's worth to wait TV generation that will be significantly more sophisticated than the here taken under the microscope 856er definitely to the next LG.

It's the many small technical deficiencies that bring the 856er model only 3 out of 5 stars.

Tip: Who is waiting for the latest LG model series (LG UF9500 / UF7700), which is on the 2015er development and is exempt from teething, makes a better investment. This new UF-series will be significantly better than the UB series. WebOS 2.0. provides significantly more and faster performance! That's just a fact! With Direct LED Panel better technology is available that can be purchased no later than the IFA
and will not be more expensive than the now childrens' UB series.
Aside from making a purchase of NOW UHD device lack UHD content anyway little sense of what the wait
on better product quite relieved! By the way: New techniques such as HDR are not supported by the UB series, which in future is important but when summer from the UHD Bluray is introduced.
