Crazy Horse (Audio CD)

Customer Review

What I felt smart when I finally discovered this CD during a visit to Berlin in a small shop and there willingly and without batting an eyelid the brazen price of 25 euros paid (at least 50 German Mark, for all that miserable the Umrechnerei also have in mind), because I was sure about: Heissa destined another one of those rare Japan total imports, of which there are only 6 pieces worldwide, because the price is really justified. Well, and then I find this CD here at Amazon for just under 10 euros. Harrghn ...
But: Really sad I'm not, because "Crazy Horse" is an absolutely great record, showing the backing of Neil Young in the best light received in 1971 by the original line-up (Ralph Molina on drums, Billy Talbot on bass and Danny Whitten on. Guitar and still alive) they lined up almost a direct hit to the other (on the contrary, but not total failure, at most one, two minor weakness moments), is pleasantly varied, without ever leaving the rock realm seriously that yes tilled the Fan want to see. Neil Young wrote with "Dance, Dance, Dance" a pretty stomping country song of the album and of course "Downtown" composed together with Danny Whitten, the song later on Neil's album "Tonight's the Night" under the title "Come on baby, let's go downtown" was released in a live version.
The guest musician of the plate are also a very illustrious group that stands for quality: Jack Nitzsche (producer of the plate, piano, [Co]-author of three titles), Nils Lofgren (guitar, author of two songs) and Ry Cooder (slide- Guitar [what else?] in three titles).
Overall, "Crazy Horse" a wonderful wonderfully balanced affair, which has benefited from the talents of the various participants only and particularly songwriter Danny Whitten shows a great talent. Too bad that even talent can be fools who waste their lives on Drug Addiction and finally finish it with an overdose Anyway:. Alone for Whitten "Look at all the things" with its polyphonic chorus, the acquisition of this board would be worthwhile even for non-Neil-Young-completists - true classic and 70's -Rock fanatics will know on this plate also appreciate the other 10 pearls at once.
