These pads with red rubber layer were on my mountain bike no 4 months in use before the braking power subsided massively. The rubber mixture just seems to be too hard for my aluminum rims. Despite the brake applied, the wheel turned slightly slowed further. From then on, it was clear something is wrong here and the rubber must be replaced urgently, otherwise is this a potential hazard on the road for me and others are!
After dismantling the brake pads could be seen on the inside of the rubber (all four pads, v. And h.) Completely polished and pure aluminum shavings had incorporated in the rubber. That made me realize why the braking power had so greatly reduced. Now the question is which obstruct instead pads?
Looking for something around I was wound up for the "normal" XLS-pads (design: Set of 4, 70 mm, black SB-Plus) decided and that was a wise decision. Finally, the bike slows down again as I was used to from the old coverings (the black Shimano). Easy on-tap the brake lever and the bike is stationary. You can now and then heard a faint squeak short in wet and dry conditions. Braking performance in dry conditions very well in the wet leaves it slightly and slows / blocked something when you have to brake abruptly.
Conclusion:
I will from now on either Shimano or black SB-Plus brake pads buy, even if you have to replace them more often because the rubber is softer and faster wear than other pads. The XLS with the red rubber layer I can not recommend, so only two stars for that.
