Customer Review

Tarja Turunen has studied classical singing and has a voice that goes beyond 3 octaves and has a natural coloration. As such it appears in good hands in the classic corner, but since she sang in a symphonic rock / gothic Matal band until some time ago applies her musical love now also rockier tones. So what to do on their first "real" solo album? Which camp you should use? Or maybe a cross between, neither fish nor fowl?
The Ergenis shows that Tarja their own way is gegagenen, far away from all clichés and yet it has elements of all their roots with hineingepackt. The result is in fact a concept album that tells a story in the style of an orchestral soundtrack with rock and metal elements. She is less inclined to the classical schemes of a "normal" rock songs, but rather those einers movie soundtracks, which is especially evident in the song lead the choirs pointedly used and Interludes.
Who on a cold winter night at home, perhaps with a glass of red wine, enjoys the album, is experiencing great mental cinema, atmospheric soundscapes and a beautiful voice. Sure, the whole thing is not just all too catchy, but if you're willing to "common" to something more sophisticated than a rock song admit without wanting to devalue here who will like this album. But I am absolutely clear that the majority of rock and metal consumers will do very difficult here.
Of course, the album is not perfect. The production example is a little too smooth, but there is also a debut and should be evaluated as such.
Personally, I am pleased with the approach taken by Tarja Turunen direction and I would also welcome more albums of her. Maybe sometimes together with another big voice like Mary Fahl.
