Hand.Cannot.Erase (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"Hand.Cannot.Erase" is the fourth solo album by British all-rounder Steven Wilson for "Insurguentes", "Grace For Drawning" and "The Raven That Refused To Sing".
Wilson has made not only by its vast activities for example as the mastermind of Porcupine Tree, his side-projects Bass Communion, No-Man, Blackfield, but also in demand as a restorer of old classics (Remix / Remaster) and producer a name.
Who is familiar with good rock music somewhat, knows his name, although he is not hyped in the mainstream media, but the reviews and now the sales figures are very impressive.
One of his great strengths is its versatility; its projects differ considerably in their orientation.
Here you have got to do it with a concept album.
As inspiration Wilson is the story of a relatively young woman who is found in London, although not as socially isolated claims, after years dead in her apartment; no one had missed.
The story of the album makes use of this sad story as the basis of texts that revolve around diverse emotions that shape our lives.
The woman from the texts of the album will disappear at the end simply whether in insignificance, resignation or death, remains open.
All this is strongly reminiscent of the structure of the Marillion album "Brave", whose story is also based on a report of a young woman in the newspapers and the singer and songwriter of the band (Steve Hogarth) had at that time also very touched.
That one is therefore not dealing here with superficial feel-good rock without depth effect, is likely to be quite clear.
Rather, it sees Wilson (again), through a blend of different styles of music (the base is natural rock in all its forms) to deliver on high impressive level an incredibly beautiful, melancholic, sentimental-sounding, poignant album where everything is just right, even Artwork and production / sound.
With Marco Minnemann (drums), Adam Holzman (keyboards), Guthrie Govan (guitar) and Nick Beggs (bass), he has compiled a more than high-quality troops that he leaves enough space to show what they can.
That the gifted composer Wilson is not back as a musician there, accompanied by the fact that the additional guest musicians absolutely convinced this was können.Stellvertretend Ninet Tayeb mentioned, which may take some vocals.
The offered bandwidth of the album is remarkable.
Time reveling and elegiac, then grooving again, metallic, rocky, there are virtuosic instrumental parts on offer, monumental, noble sound, sad moods and more.
For this purpose the artist of many cross-references served his musical heroes / inspirations, like Genesis, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Yes and many others to imitate, without flat.
Wilson has his own style and always manages to create technically perfect and with a lot of feeling and class, emotions.
Every now and then to read criticism, he would compose new only ancient puzzle pieces of the rock history, so it was just a good music craftsman, not a true creative spirit, strikes me as just loose gripes.
Finally, everything was practically already there, but Wilson is a virtuoso in it, perfect to process diverse influences into something new and to form with meaty new melodies to fantastic music.
Additionally, "Hand.Cannot.Erase." not only suitable for the intensive introverted listeners, but also catchy enough to please the lovers of the lighter muse with quality and substance; and, exactly, is not easy.
The first superficially perceived melodies, rhythms and instrumental parts are also interesting nuances, little details in the music, which can all be more exciting and flank the rough structure of the pieces skilfully and veredeln.Überhaupt subtly comes the word "subtle" in this music a strong significance.
Much reveals itself slowly, only to overpower one even more.
Once again a direct hit, Mr.Wilson!

Also the sound quality of all recordings can be heard.
The dynamic values are good, the modulation high but with no audible distortion.
In addition to the beautiful set put standard CD nor the vinyl edition, a limited edition with DVD and a limited edition with BluRay angeboten.Außerdem there was a special (very expensive) edition with book and various recordings.
An enumeration of all the bonus features is beyond the scope, particularly noteworthy, it seems to me, however, that (24-bit / 48KHz) are included on the DVD / BluRays of Limited Editions also surround mix (5.1) and high-resolution stereo versions.
