Sounds Of The Universe (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Depeche Mode has not always made his fans in the post-Alan Wilder-era with your albums easily. 'Exciter' or 'Playing the Angel' always had a grip 1st single release, making certain expectations for the upcoming album was produced at the Fan or listener, but then could not be met because the single is not necessarily representative of the Sound of the entire album was. Which does not mean that the albums and the songs contained on it would have been bad, on the contrary! The albums just lacked only the cohesion, the common thread that binds each song and then can affect the album as such.

In 'Sounds of the Universe' behaves everything somehow different. 'Wrong' is certainly the most striking on the new album at first song, but he is far from being a sweet, approachable for the masses pop song like 'Precious' or 'Dream on', which after 1-2maligem Listen in memory holing. Rather, it is in fact representative of 'Sounds of the Universe'. And also the title of the album says it all: It is a universe of melodies, harmonies and sounds. It may sound corny, but you have to just take the time to discover this.

I would now like to not bore the readers of my reviews with the analysis of each song, but I want to point in detail only on the song 'In Chains' as opener: The chorus sounds to me more like some places 'in Change' at ... That is (at least for me interpreted ...) hint of Depeche Mode that something is on your latest album so different.

Depeche Mode anno '09 behave namely to their own beginnings in the 80s as techno of today to the Techno early 90s. Everything sounds reduced, more subtle, more sophisticated and dirty but also not as overproduced and trimmed to 'hit'. It seems in fact that the band is only now beginning to free itself from the tight corset of synth-pop and writes songs that you always wanted to write, without denying their own Depeche Mode Trade Marks (this alone is Dave's voice too charismatic).

Many DM purists saw it indeed prefer that each new album is a new 'Violator'-infusion with a new' Enjoy the Silence' infusion. All I can say is that DM Gottlob never 'play it safe' produced and never rested on their laurels, but rather tried to develop from album to album and continue to have new influences into the music with incorporated, which so macher Fan had its problems (I also added in the case of 'Condemnation' in 'Songs of Faith & Devotion').

DM are so great because they also currently soundwise show to experiment, have continued to develop musically and thus sound fresher than ever. The best counter-example to this development are (made by me but very appreciated!) 'The Cure', which never managed to add its Wave / Rock new facets and moments of surprise, so the mood of your albums is actually always the same, what then after 30 years eventually bored.

Of these, DM, 2009, to tell time with a song from the new album, MILES AWAY away. You just have to let only act impartially album and songs on and then the true Depeche Mode fan recognizes the true potential of the new album: namely great songs in the perhaps most compact and konzeptionellsten DM album ever ... really big !!!
