Playing The Angel (Audio CD)

Customer Review

After Depeche Mode apparently its zenith not only reached with Songs of Faith & Devotion but also exceeded it physically and psychich, followed by the sobering but evenly matched masterpiece Ultra. After the disillusionment the uninspired and aimless Exciter, which sent the boys then on solo paths followed. These solo career of Mr. Gore and Mr. Gahan did quite obviously as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, because with Playing the Angel, there have Depeche Mode actually managed again to reach its peak again.
On this masterpiece to Depeche Mode rediscover their real strengths, profound emotions, supported by a sound framework the constructed that passes through bone and marrow. The handset opens up a macrocosm, which he has never heard of Depeche Mode. By the time one has arrived at the arguments put forward by Martin Gore number "Damaged People", no one can seriously argue that it could be this kind of music completely cold. Here the comparison to the Beatles is really appropriate times.
The completely new in Depeche Mode's macrocosm but are the 3 contributed songs written by Dave Gahan. This proves Gahan finally congenial relationship to Gore, who actively supported him in the chorus, which sounds just incredibly beautiful.
Martin Gore has never set his guitar so consistently, but the album is characterized by a fresh new experimentalism, which is certainly due to the producer Ben Hillier.
Martin Gore and Dave Gahan's congeniality culminate in the final plaintive ballad "The Darkest Star", which has also given the name of the album "Playing the Angel".
"Playing The Angel" proves quite impressively that the 25-year successful career of Depeche Mode is not a coincidence and true, but the result of a never-ending creative output of a Mr. Gore and now even a Mr Gahan.
