Tintin in America (Hardcover)

Customer Review

Just a little history if you do not mind ... Tintin in America begins to appear in The Little Twentieth from 3 September 1931. He will continue to appear for more than a year with two boards per week. In this adventure, comes the gangster Al Capone. This is the first and only time in the series where Hergé integrates a real individual character. Most often it is inspired to create his characters real individuals but makes numerous amendments.

To create history, Hergé had only limited documentation as to Tintin in the Land of the Soviets and Tintin in the Congo. He left scenes of the future life of Georges Duhamel, of the journal Crapouillot who devoted a special edition in the United States and a book on American Indians. During the creation of the comic, Hergé wanted mainly to turn the story around Native American for whom he dedicated a great fascination. Thus he shows American soldiers chasing Indians bayonet after the discovery of oil wells. This sequence did not unanimously when the album was reissued but he would never remove it.

Hergé also tried to portray North America at the time he was drawing. It has integrated various elements such as prohibition or gang warfare. In 1945, the album was picked to be in color and he found himself overhauled. In the new version, many improvements in the image of narration were made to make it more fluid and easier to understand reading.
