Dire Straits (Audio CD)

Customer Review

In a good CD collection this disc can not be missing actually. Completely against the zeitgeist joined the educationalist Mark Knopfler for the first time with its dry Chanting and signature guitar sound and created a casual groovy debut that with "Sultans of Swing" (the tribute to an aging Dixieland Band) one of the best rock songs of all Times contains. The opener "Down to the Waterline" is also a Dire Straits classics, otherwise dominated more casual groove (not in vain Quentin Tarantino has "Six Blade Knife" for the soundtrack to the film DESPERADO selected) in combination with Knopfler typical storytelling, which He owed his work as a journalist. The synthesizers are still missing completely, the CD was recorded in classic rock lineup (bass, guitar, drums), brother David Knopfler served here nor Rhythmusklampfe. Taken songs contain strong country / blues elements ("Southbound again, setting me up"), but the unmistakable soft, typical Knopfler sound (played a Fender Stratocaster with fingerpicking) is always present. The finale with the ballads "Wild West End" and "Lions" is also very well done. If you like Dire Straits, but they all count as stadiums filling hi-fi rock band from the "Brothers in Arms" era, should hear times where it all started.
