1. A Pain That I`m Used To: At the very beginning a very aggressive, almost hateful uptempo song. Written by Martin Gore can be here perhaps a message to his wife even imagine (the divorce is ongoing). "I don`t need to believe all the dreams you conceive, you just need to achieve Something That rings true" it says in the chorus. A very strong opener, which is, incidentally, are also 2 single.
2. John The Revelator: The most surprising song on "Playing The Angel"! The song is about a biblical figure, the apostle John on the island of Patmos. The song comes anything but religiously therefore. "Who`s That shouting?" Dave asks into the microphone, "John The Revelator" Martin screams back. Fantastic, faster and at the same time demanding song! You can hear the crowds shout along with the upcoming tour already formally. The song is a potential single for me and should also arrive at the masses.
3. Suffer Well: The first song written by Dave song on this album. And at the same time a pretty good. Another up-tempo number with a great guitar riff, but a not so strong chorus. I am, however, been no friend of Dave Gahan's solo album, this song is significantly stronger than anything on "Paper Monsters".
4. The Sinner In Me: class Electro / Industrial number. Here is a little quieter down to business. Slowly the song builds up the soundscape. The whole is reminiscent of "Massive Attack". There is a sloping guitar solo by Martin to end.
5. Precious: Most already known. Very radio-friendly number, right choice as the first single, however, absolutely not representative of the album. Still very poignant song about the effect of divorce on Martin Gore's children. But why the US will not be published radio version remains a mystery to me. This sounds a lot more from the sound.
6. Macro: The first sung by Martin song inspired me immediately. Very unusual number, but so typical Martin Gore. Very complex songwriting, great cinema!
7. I Want It All: A little too long guessed Ballad of Dave. Class sounds, but the song does not convince me. For many of the weakest song on the album.
8. Nothing`s Impossible: I just wrote that Dave has perhaps the weakest song on the album written? Well, then I have him now but with "Nothing`s Impossible" certify that he for me some of the best Depeche Mode songs has ever written! I could not believe my ears, so atmospheric, dark and poignant is this number! Re very fast, gepsickt with brilliant sounds and a voice Dave Gahan, which is a runterläuft back. The perfect soundtrack for a hefty Hrbstdepression and hopefully Single!
9. Introspectre: Equal to "Nothing`s Impossible" joins the instrumental of the album. For many inconsequential, but in my opinion very atmospheric piece and not at all superfluous.
10. Damaged People: The second song with Martin Gore Vocals. Incredible retro sound, one has the feeling of being in the 80s! Nice anecdote: Dave Gahan did not want to sing the song, because he does not see himself as "Damaged People". But that does nothing, Martin has also got it inimitable!
11. Lilian: And on it goes with the retro sounds! Very strong pop song that reminds me of "Shake The Disease" and the band "Camouflage". Trtotzdem in unique Depeche Mode style! Again potential single!
12. The Darkest Star: Slow, dark number with an incredible soundscape! Here are all the guns again ascended that give the synthesizer. One way to end a great album!
Depeche Mode are back and do "Exciter" forgotten. There were many who, it would not have believed them, the band stood for a while in the balance.
