Is Asambling completed went immediately into the EFI / BIOS which was designed by Intel very clear. Except for boot options no configurations were necessary. The BIOS was outdated - if not perform BIOS update immediately before OS installation.
The Linux USB stick which port installs Ubuntu Server 14.04LTS, was immediately recognized correctly and the installation was nothing in the way.
Not start the USB Stick for Linux installations by EFI Boot but as normal BIOS Boot - Side note here. For Windows 8 EFI can be used.
The NUC hardware was correctly recognized by the Linux server without problems and runs very fast.
The innately very slim server distribution has been extended to NFS client services, SSH, and finally PLEX Media Server and now serves as PLEX Media Server / transcoder when I'm on business trips.
Per Android / iOS app I connect to the server PLEX (NUC) at home and streame the movies directly on my tablet or my Chromecast. The NUC or PLEX transcoder ensures the correct compression (Live) by firstly the stream via my internet connection to enable (max. 10Mbit UP) or to reflect the performance of the client.
As sources the transcoder untouched Blu Rays are in MKV format available. The i3 NUC in this constellation has to transcode any problems a Blu Ray live and send. Two streams are the i3 just too much at once. If this is the claim, I would rather recommend the i5 or i7 NUC.
For my case, the i3 NUC is perfect - headless Linux server + PLEX Transcoder idle with 6Watt and max. 16Watt work.
