Further advantages:
- Light weight, small size
- Fast, inaudible! and very more accurate autofocus
- Nothing rattles, everything feels wertig - especially for the beginners, it is a plastic Objketiv
- Nice, though due to the 5.6 aperture not too spectacular bokeh
There are hardly any disadvantages:
The stabilizer "freezes" the viewfinder image is not as strong a how to make the competitor (see below). Accurate I can not say, but I appreciate the effectiveness purely subjective not all too high, especially when compared to the competitor.
The vignetting (vignetting) is quite clearly seen in the photos. My EOS550D not detect the lens, however, in terms of vignetting, so this may pose to modern cameras no problem. It is also just as pronounced, I have noticed it, but it does not bother me.
I have the lens with many competitors compared (involuntary, because I would have expected of all each good performance, but was repeatedly disappointed). The competitor that I've looked at in more detail:
Canon EF 70-200mm 1: 4 L USM lens (non-image stabilized):
There succeed very good, sharp images, the lack of image stabilizer is well offset by the 4.0 aperture (camera shake hardly came before). The Bokeh is beautiful, class the separation of foreground and background. For handheld shots but the trembling of the hands is very disturbing in the viewfinder. Although it may not play a role for the photos, set the image in the viewfinder is sometimes a bit annoying. For micht the stabilizer therefore presented mainly regarding the scene as indispensable out.
Canon EF 70-300mm 1: 4.0-5.6 IS USM lens:
The good Rezesionen also brought me to this message. Hidden L lens it is often called (not by me). There succeed beautiful photos, but still at least a slight blur, and it could be totally blurred. No Alternative.
Tamron AF 70-300mm 4-5.6 Di VC USD Canon SP:
Even this was always highly praised in recessions. Not without reason. It is a powerful telephoto lens, but not a big improvement over the Canon EF 70-300 when it comes to sharpness.
All in all, the EF-S 55-250, the first Tele after L, which could inspire me. The handling is easy and enjoyable, tune the image results and keep up with the Canon 70-200 L (without IS) on my 550D readily with. Half-price.
Photos were compared especially at maximum aperture. The focus, however, is changing as well as not on focused point - is an appearance so do not focus, it will not be by stopping down. The photos were compared at 100% size. Whether the image is sharp, or not, is, however, sees all "fuzzy" lenses even when viewing the reduced image.
All in all, strong buy recommendation!
