UPDATE 18.5.2012:
Did the router so sent back after my disappointing first experience, because the VPN problem was solved, however, I ordered the device after some time a second time. Quite simply for the reason that I could not find another wireless router whose performance in the wireless area only came to this approach. He now performs even be some time his services and I have found no further problems. About the Wi-Fi reception, I'm still excited and can only recommend the router.
The USB functionality I have not tested, so it can add an update.
Due to the good performance now 5 Star (previously only 2!)
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Pity!
After unpacking (wow, looks really nice and is tiny - almost too easy if you connect heavy LAN cable, then he does already difficult in a position to stand still) and connecting was the first big joy: a much better wireless reception as with the Netgear WNDR3700 (the because unfortunately is very weak).
Means going quite well - even if the surface is not so great as is claimed in some test reports - the Help function triggers Netgear head and shoulders - but it works.
Also guest WLANs do not exist. The settings are also somewhat limited and the German translation in many places strange ...
Then the test came with a 2TB USB disk:
The write access to NTFS was as expected modest and was below 2MB / s - read went with just 4MB / s - but then came the disillusionment. Suddenly the plate was no longer reachable, then yes, then not again - a backup that I wanted to perform broke off ...
After I then joined the panel on the PC back of these reported equal to a few mistakes and tried to repair it.
The attempt the Media Streaming to set in motion failed: No matter where I videos or music and it was never copied anything displayed settings ... is there no in the admin interface - well you can not rename the gesharte drive - but perhaps I've also done something wrong. After the read and write speeds (as with such devices usual) are impossible with NTFS, the router comes as a 'makeshift' NAS anyway not in question - other than that I've already read it, that it makes NTFS formatted disks anyway short shrift - so be careful!
Until then, everything was (almost) green area - and would have (maybe even 5 performance because of the good WLAN) brought 4 stars - but today was working again announced and because I need a Cisco VPN client dial. This undertaking has in the last 5 years never causes problems (under 4 different Netgear routers: 1x ProSafe Switch (name escapes me), 1x WNR854T, 1x WNR3500 and 1x WNDR3700) - under the ASUS RT-N56U there was suddenly problems. .. that can not be, I thought, trying our network department to help me - after some testing and interviewing Mr. Google it seemed to be the fact: This super new, not cheap, all-rounder - making problems with VPN connections (IPSec passthrough) - there is something ???
Some write there are only problems with LAN connection, others say it is a firmware problem (which has not yet been released) ...
Anyway - after 2 hours testing I then abandoned - but I have neither the nerve nor the time ... the appliance is unfortunately back!
2 stars are of course subjective, but in my view, almost too much, because the unit is unfortunately useless for me - the 2 star he gets from me just because the WLAN function is really good ... so sad :-(
