A big thank you to Nathan editions for this partnership.
This is the first book in the series "The family too many girls", which will include six (one for each girl). We start with Anna, the eldest, then we gradually discover each of the girls, ending with the youngest, Flavia. This series belongs to the collection "my first novels" particularly suitable for girls from 7 years. This collection is a continuation of that of the "first readings" and retains the same book format, and the same quality at the cover and pages. It is a format that I appreciate and that is very attractive.
The illustrations are Clotka and are very current. The line is not childish and should appeal to many girls who are now big girls since they were 7 years old ^^
Side story, I immediately thought of "4 Little Women" by reading the summary, all girls of different ages in the same family ... But in the end, in this first volume, the relationship between sisters (and brother) was little attention, even if you feel close to each other. This volume is that of Anna, so it makes sense that the story revolves around it!
I had to check the age Anna is supposed to have, 11 years (she is in the sixth) as the illustrations (but even in fact in history) it is older, it looks like a real teenager ( 13/14 years). So when one situates everything in context, it is found in fact with great responsibilities for such a young girl, and I found that she had no easy life. Moreover, the story is rather realistic in its themes and how to address them, but I confess that I was somewhat surprised to approach things too frank for children 7 years old (I mean especially the beginning where it is explained that Arthur parents had many children and that ultimately they had not realized the amount of work that this represented and so they all preferred 2 resume important positions where they would be much absent, rather than staying at home). So this is really a "little romance" (that ends well ^^) centered on themes of adolescence but rather addressed mature manner. I think that readers will appreciate this book is for a novel in which they are taken seriously, without being infantilized.
I long to read on to know the adventures of Bella, Cara, Dana, Elisa and Flavia. Find soon my opinion on Volume 2.
