As with so many modern devices, I first want to point out that 50% of all so intractable and critical problems that cause often sitting in front of the screen.
When a device such as a router, in which it is known that the firmware of the crucial features is, one should look only times whether there are updates before I zerreise product.
Is something not clear to me, then the FB is perhaps the wrong product and you should stick to his house & yard router from the provider that automatically configures itself like.
All this makes the FB not, but you do have a little deal with it and also know a little bit what you are doing. But just that she's also made.
If you do so and uses the latest firmware, the following do you get:
(Btw: a firmware cycle as with AVM I've seen rare Not because it would be necessary because of errors, but you have the peace of mind that a number of very dedicated developers behind it...)
- GUI
Sometimes you can tell by the GUI, that she wants to be a bridge between the average Joe user and professional. Many relevant for the experienced user settings to hide behind riders, not to confuse. The experts make improvement and is a really good compromise. But if need be it is also just telnet to the FB. And unlike many other providers, where you have to create a new ROM on the router. (Telnet only previously activate speed dial. SSH would be even better ... but who knows.)
- Internet
That you need and also expected today. Practically I always find, if you can determine a date for the implementation of forced separation ... you can here.
Port forwarding, NAT, NAS ... everything up to date. To diagnose the network connection very good overviews. Familiar device features to really small adjustments to improve the link quality.
- Telephony
I ask 7 SIP numbers from various providers over the FB. Works great. Never problems. No triggered by the FB disconnections. Again, very good set-up wizard, but also manual options.
- WIFI:
Very good. Both bands are supported and there is directly the possibility of creating a guest-Fi. There logged obtained access to the Internet, but otherwise also nix. Very fine!
Everything about current encryptions and I think this WDS Krams ... but I've not played with. No crashes and quite adequate coverage. Can not remember with other routers to have had better or worse ranges me. But also a wireless-friendly house.
Answering Machine:
For each number a separate AB can be set up. The announcement can be recorded via the telephone, or to upload a file via Telnet with a few tricks. Do both super. Messages can then be forwarded by email. Here's a small drawback: the abs can not be used timed. So from 9-17 clock announcement A, else B. announcement Where: Also going on the rebound with time-controlled call forwarding. Have not tried, but my solution would be times when I really need this feature.
Fax: The fax is doing what it should. Incoming faxes can be sent directly by mail. The fax another mail address, if necessary. Even fax from PC via CAPI emulation doing super.
(One just needs time to read and learn the instructions that you must activate the CAPI interface speed dial once ...)
- DECT
Works great. But beware: Not every DECT handset supports all the functions of the FB. CLIP is, for example, as a feature - which is really inconvenient. All Panasonic handsets are not supported my knowledge. Telephone goes, but not so on CLIP halt. At Siemens, sinus or Swissôtel it looks as better. Somewhere in the network there is an overview of the possible devices and which features are supported. I have now connected a sine 500i (or so) and 4-F FritzFon phones and FritzFons are amazing.
There has never been disconnections. However, I have always the latest firmware on the devices. Voice quality is great and even when the sine you can select the appropriate phone book from the Fritz box.
Otherwise reconnecting old DECT station via TAE and good. Then one just has only two consumers (current) power.
- LAN / power saving features
I have summarized the two points because you will also have to deal a little deeper with the thing itself.
In short: LAN does what it should. However, only the LAN port 1 operates in gigabit mode by default. All other ports are configured in the Green mode. That is to save power (does certainly) limits the performance but at 100 Mbits. That may also be quite sufficient for many, but you want to really use his GBit network, you should change according to the other ports as required in the power-saving features. Then also the gigabit network ... and indeed does splendidly. Bottleneck are with me the cable - the FB but not.
- Community
One, if not the strength of the FB. No matter what question, what problem, what is the idea: Somewhere it is very likely already been discussed and usually there is also a solution. These dozens come from small or large tools for FB. So you can at PC can log all calls, make calls directly from the PC to the handset, manage phonebooks on a separate SQL DB and synchronize regularly ... truly one of the pluses.
Conclusion:
I use them as full-fledged office communication center. The star, which could pull the unit because of a few missing features (AB timing DECT compatibility with devices), making the community and the many, many freeware betting loose again.
Therefore, full 5 points and questions / problems: Google is your friend. Where you will also often encounter responses of AVM support. Exemplary.
You just have to always keep in mind that the FB is really a panacea. Who does not need milk, wool and eggs at a time and is satisfied with 95% each, is certainly well served by "smaller" devices or individual devices for each solution.
A - added - Fritz fanboy.
