"Evanescence" in German means something like "wasting away". The band itself will suffer in the near future no such fate, which I recently was able to convince on its grandiose concert in Munich. So here's a review of the album: Evanescence is not easily fit into a drawer. To some extent come to terms such as "Nu Metal" or "Gothic Rock", I would, however, the band (fits "transcendent" because quite well) as a trans-genre called. Definitely a dark mood is moor in the texts and sounds. The trademark of the band is undoubtedly lead singer Amy Lee, the (very old-school standard) began in the church choir and "then, at summer camp" with Ben Moody (now the boy with the electric guitar) teamed. A few years later was called the project Evanescence, there were two other permanent members to and finally the debut album "Fallen", which already has sold millions of times. Almost breathtaking acts the entry number "Going Under," in Amy plumbs the lower limits of her voice before the rest of the ensemble can speak the instruments. But there are Amy's vocals that repeatedly in multiple layers (keyword "multi-vocal") are created to ensure goosebumps. Only in the most successful hit single "Bring Me to Life" she gets vocal support from Paul McCoy (from 12 Stones), the orchestral accompaniment of the tracks is just fantastic. While the other titles such as "Haunted" (initiated by a sequence eerie tones), "Tourniquet" (in the text probably more despair infected than in any of the other pieces) or "Everybody's Fool" are limited to sing along (much less sing along) suitable, but without exception, atmospherically dense and of consistently high quality. The majority of the album so are the rock numbers, with hard guitar riffs, drums and synthetic string accompaniment. All the more soulful and beautiful act suddenly the ballad "Hello" or especially "My Immortal", which in concert - thanks to Amy - represented an unforgettable climax. Is it worth buying the album is so? Since you ask for? It is best to listen to it in one of the rockier numbers. If this favor is all you will find just about to add itself a true music Highlights 2003. I highly recommend it!
