What is immediately noticeable is that frontman Daniel Winter-Bates has worked mightily to his guttural vocals. Comparing this fact with the voherigen albums, then you hear the difference clearly. It has increased from album to album, but here one could almost think that roars another singer from the microphone. Absolutely great what he did with his voice and a big compliment to the place. It may sound really nice nasty, brutal and powerful.
Lead singer and electric guitarist Jason Cameron sounds great as always. His voice is pure goosebumps. He still exudes the familiar melancholy and gives the band as their own touch.
Listen to the first few times have proved to be a bit bumpy. The sound is very brutal and edgy. There are no ironed riffs or boring song structures. The boys surprised a repeatedly with unpredictable breakdowns, tempo changes and explosive Shouts. That seems to be the reason why the album is not right the first time so ignites as his time "Portraits" and "Union of Crowns". You need a few tries to get used to the harder and dirtier sound that makes the album but very exciting. You put it over and over again and listen to each other facets out. This ensures the "Runes" will not be bored. The total hardness of the album will be accompanied by beautiful melodies and shows once again what the guys in "modern metal" actually all have so on it. In my opinion, we need more such creative bands. They bring forward the genre and give the scene new impetus.
Bury Tomorrow have much to say in the songs. The texts and topics are appealing and know how to please. When writing has taken his time and you can hear that. Repeat here any text lines 5-6 times, only the song artificially stretch in the length. It's nice to hear that the songs are very varied.
The absolute highlight again this time form the Accoustic tracks. "The Torch" and "Watcher 2.0". Both songs are also available in the harder variant on the album, but as a quieter version I like them almost better. Both versions have to show their charm and just the Accoustic variants that Bury Tomorrow also can strike other sounds and what they possess a musical talent.
The production retains its constant high level. The ups and downs are a bit better ausgesteurt time. The bass is nice and punchy rumbles properly. The tools are nice to hear and the voices are well mixed. In sum, it has so far here the best sound on a Bury Tomorrow plate.
The scope of the album is impressive also. Whopping 16 songs there are heard. For metalcore albums rather an exception. Again, the guys go their way and constantly grab more titles on the album than this Gengre usual.
Conclusion:
The album goes forward. Here can be moshing endlessly. Bury Tomorrow have made absolutely dirty and edgy metalcore on their feet. It sounds a bit different than its predecessors, is not quite as catchy and "clean", but really nasty, brutal, complex, varied and exciting. The setting after a few Höhrgängen very pleasing and ensures that the panel will not soon flies out of the player.
"Runes" but also offers beautiful melodies, great lyrics and the occasional catchy. The new shekel is a complete success.
Very laudable that there still are bands that, do not drive due to increasing success the mainstream track and be softer, but make their sound more rough.
Fans of metalcore come here right at their expense. Buy recommendation!
