Admittedly the last two album releases of the Stereophonics were up to a few exceptional songs not exactly brilliant. To fade, too slow, the music moved to the end without any real highlights. I submit that that had less than to do with musical experimentation with a spent tape, from which one knew that she was already nearing separation. Separately has then drummer Stuart Cable shortly after the release of "You Gotta Go There To Come Back". Spare found Kelly Jones (guitar, vocals) and Richard Jones (bass) - who are not related in passing as some like to say - in the Argentinean Javier Weyler. Has changed a lot. The new album is much darker and faster than the previous and reminiscent in many parts also to "Jet" and "Foo Fighters" mastermind Dave Grohl's talent for composition (will appear from which the rest of this year (2005) is still a new double album) , Why only 4 stars? Although I am personally of the opinion that Stereophonics have made a huge step back (in a good way "Back To The Roots"), also the new album can convince them to sound the same few songs, not entirely the apparently only in textual content differ. Among my personal favorites (in no particular order): - "Dakota", a fast, coherent party song (and also the current single release) - "Rewind", a slow but content bombastic and thoughtful Track - "Dead Head", fast and catchy - "Lolita", Foo Fighters can greet - "Superman", one of the best tracks - and is somewhat reminiscent of the old Prince Style 4 stars. New in the old style, dark and atmospheric.
