Camera for people well suited to look at the photos taken by your maximum on a tablet PC, make 9x13 photo prints or photo books. Here, the image quality is sufficient. The small sensor allows the small size, which is also reduced by the folding monitor again a lot. However one gets a good zoom range, which is to use also good for the zoo and a pocket suitability, about which many people would be happy. I also know people who drive to make high quality recordings with a DSLR in the holiday, but with a few photos come back home with the excuse that the camera was just too hard to take them every day.
Not recommended is the camera for people who want to make large A3 prints of your photos and adjust everything manually.
I go with a camera always through the house and garden and Scan consistent motives with any camera I test. The Nikon intersects actually did very well. The autofocus works well and the colors and the zoom can be no doubts arise. The camera is used here in the automatic mode. I advise everyone to set the picture quality to fine. Although this requires more space, but in the present size of SDHC cards that will probably not be a problem. There are several shooting modes, where you can let off steam a little, if one would like to adjust what. Unfortunately speed and aperture can not be adjusted manually. Some programs make it possible, however, to determine the iso-value or specify a maximum level (eg ISO 800). The look works well. In wide angle there is little rounded at the corners. Although the monitor is not high definition, but shows a good picture, which is itself seen relatively well in the sunshine. Buttons, there is little, only a trigger, zoom lever, a power button a Wifiknopf, a video button and a second release button on the front of the housing. Everything else is running on the monitor, which works equally well as a smartphone. Gestures such as image magnification and wiping can be applied. The menu operation is easy designed and explains himself. There are also some nice effects and facial enhancements. Here then a blur is applied, but this is really implemented well. The panorama is assembled in the camera. The results are really good, however, of low resolution. The smile detection automatically takes a photo when the subject smiles. Actually worked in our cat Jimmy. ;-) Then there are a few programs for snow, night and other situations. The automatic mode detects these programs but remarkably well himself, so that you really can save these settings by the user.
The video mode pleasantly surprised me. He creates in HD mode even 50i images or if necessary, even 60i (which I would not necessarily recommend for Germany and its 50 Hz technology, as may flicker bulbs otherwise horribly). What, however, very annoying. Pressing the REC button, it takes about 2 seconds until the actual recording starts. This could go a little faster. When the battery join in it, you can shoot nearly 30 minutes at a time. The video footage is surprisingly good, but there is nothing to fix. It says start recording and hoped that the camera always focuses and properly exposes what has been imagined. In particular, the image stabilization is doing very noticeable during video recording and is like a shaky hand out very well.
Wifi function. In the tablet the app WirelessMobilUtility must be installed (Android and iOS) by Nikon. During the connection, the connection is interrupted to our Fritzbox. Can go on the internet so you do not parallel. NFC with my Sony smartphone is faster. The camera is instantly recognized when one considers the two N's together. The app is relatively easy knit. You can see a preview of the camera optics. Zooming also goes. Pressing the trigger on the Tablet, an image is made. The large main image is stored in the resolution setting in the camera. On the tablet a preview file is loaded into tablet monitor size. But you can also bring the original picture in full resolution of the Nikon. Unfortunately videos can not be started. The connection works very well, but the whole is still very tough and needs some patience. But but you get a nice remote control function with monitor.
The battery is a weak point of the camera. He is very small and not necessarily 700mAh Powerful. At a second battery you will therefore not pass on extensive day trips.
The battery is charged with a USB charger in the camera. Although I am very excited at the beginning of the fact that camera manufacturers sometimes have no external battery charger supplied with more, I think it's now actually getting better. Why?
1. Especially on holiday you have to carry around any extra charger. Here I can use the same USB charger from my smart phone or tablet PC. I would like to mention that Nikon in the owner's manual does not recommend to use other cable, to mind but I did not quite understand. Mini USB Mini USB remains.
2. For cameras that can not be charged via USB, you often have to wait until the battery is connected to the external charger is recharged until the data transfer can take place on a PC.
3. In the car, you can charge the camera with a USB charger, which you put into the cigarette lighter. Are there any cheap to buy.
4. Do I really need an external charger, I can buy more favorable (eg Patona, with whom I've had very good experience). A USB charging function in the camera you can not buy more, unfortunately.
Disadvantage is actually just that one can not use the camera during charging, since one is bound to the length of the USB cable. If you load the battery in an external battery charger, there would be the possible, with a second battery to use the camera. The only question is whether the move then always an electrical outlet is nearby to charge the other battery. You see, this is a difficult issue. However, experience has shown me mitlerweile that the USB charging function is better than with an external charger. This is probably only a professional photographer need many shots in a short time have to do.
Here are a few points that I liked not so good:
- The camera also has built a small stand. If you fold this not right back he caused scratches on the screen when it is closed in camera direction. Otherwise, this stand is a nice idea but to turn off the camera and take pictures.
- The valves for the connections are those annoying plugs. Why here to build not a hinge with one stone?
- As already mentioned, the battery is very inefficient, but it also does not take a lot of space in the small housing of the Nikon. So you should buy a second battery.
- The focus does not always one hundred percent in dim lighting. Also on the App blurry shots are often generated. The only remedy is more light here.
- Too bad that the app can not start a video recording.
- I would have liked a little more manual controls. Speed and aperture, the main elements of photography remain unfortunately left the camera.
Conclusion: The camera is small, has a touch-screen monitor folding brings about good photos and even has a small tripod on board. Weaknesses are the small battery and the rather meager facilities of the app. Here you could have installed as many additional features. I give the camera with her really good features 4 stars.
