Processing, haptics, basic technical data
Nikon offers a good and satisfactory processed lens. The mechanism is neatly expressed but at times, gently, rickety and acts not as a professional, as with the expensive lenses from the same house. Also somewhere understandable at this price.
With approximately 200 g is pleasantly light and almost delicate thanks to its small dimensions. A backlight (some say even scattered light) panel is included. The lens is almost completely made of plastic and feels even so, haptic not necessarily a pleasure, but acceptable. With a fixed focal length of 35 mm, it is demanded more of their own "movement" from the photographer. As advantage for me as the built-in Silent Wave autofocus motor, an image stabilizer is not integrated. It ships with lens pouch, lens caps (front and rear) and said lens hood.
For processing, material quality, equipment and mechanics = the sum of 4 stars.
Imaging performance - image quality
It is a bright 1,8er Konsumerobjektiv. The offered optical quality of the lenses used is not bad.
For me an important issue when it comes to imaging performance, is the question of freedom from distortion or how high the Verzeichnungsfaktor an objective. With a fixed focal length lens, I expect a greatest possible freedom from distortion, at least compared with a zoom. Surely you can correct this unsightly factor PC with appropriate programs. Unfortunately, the 35er is not free from it. With a clearly visible barrel distortion have to be able to live, if you opt for this look. Fortunately, creates in-camera image correction of D 90 to almost completely eliminate this mistake, otherwise you have a software on PC to your aid. For portrait and landscape photography it does not matter. Since the distortion is still moving in the acceptable range, good for 3 stars.
Another important area that solves the objective good, is the focus Figure. The part shines with good, sometimes very sharp and high-contrast images, the autofocus (the composite camera D 90 + lens) works great. Depending on the panel also good depth of field can be achieved. In Aperture 1.8, the sharpness performance is below average, but dim helps then too excellent values. The (personal) highest severity level I have achieved with aperture 11. Basically, there are sharper blades "on the market, but these also cost significantly more, hence 4 stars for it.
Chromatic aberrations keep pleasing in boundaries only for large magnifications from A4 color fringes are quite clearly visible, but 3 stars.
Another sub-theme in the field of image quality are vignetting, thus shadowing the edges. Clearly they are noticed me only at full aperture, stopping down helps here too to top results, 4 stars.
I bought this lens especially for portraits with appropriate Bokeh. This is fairly balanced, depending on the aperture used vigorously and to my eye. A comparable 50 mm fixed focal length Sigma conjures demgenüber an even softer and ausgeglichernes Bokeh in extreme sharpness, but again, the price again plays a role. 4 stars for this performance.
The light intensity can be offered relevant to creative freedom - keyword: "available light", for an "Extra Plus".
In summary, in terms of image quality: 3.6 + star
Price-Performance
Given the sensational low price case of need for orderly processing and optical quality can be awarded only 5 star +. The "Extra Plus" must be, because no lens is as low and pricing power so convincing!
End-Result:
Class 4 star lens with outstanding price-performance ratio
A great fixed focal length lens that shines in spite of the high proportion of plastic, but with very good amenities and good optical performance. At this price? Who does not buy is your own fault. Sure, there are mechanically and optically better tools, but they are also significantly more expensive. For the DX sensor an absolute recommendation.
