This group is not listed among those that marked my z'années young, but this record was mentioned in one of the ideal nightclubs Philou maneuver and it was not to die stupid, I finished by buying a day outage shopping inspiration.
This album, the first of the group, published in 1970 has been remastered by Rhino in 2000 and therefore the sound is pretty good, even very good, that's something and nothing but this, it deserves 3 * * *. But it was after that things go wrong because today this disc still sounds very, very academic, much like the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, except that I like the Bueno, while the latter leaves me completely cold, as if I was married to Angela Merkel. Pareil!
Besides, is it a coincidence? the J Geils Band singer Peter Wolf is called a German-sounding name, which, as everyone knows, is not necessarily an advantage, knowing little Teutonic predispositions to play the (good) rock .... When you think they almost spoiling the Beatles ... The program therefore covers Otis Rush ("Homework"), John Lee Hooker ("Serves your right To Suffer") Albert Collins (" sno-cone ") and a majority of original titles ..
The harmonica player Magic Dick is not bad at all, it evokes a bit Canned Heat, more than Dr. Feelgood. One is therefore indeed in the presence of a large well-American rhythm and blues, not end for two pennies, but rudely effective! .... Unless something missing, maybe the disc is a little bit too, and we end up bored stiff (Ah, it's the end, I put it back ....).
This first disc, signed on Atlantic (not bad!) For $ 30,000 thus showed quite encouraging for a start, but it would have to go over the speed to reach the first division.
Question: did they get?
