More than 10 years after its release and shortly before the release of "Negrophilia" I wanted to return to the emotion that gave me this album which, with hindsight, remains my favorite. Refractory to the 80 and the wave New Wave in the early 90s I had found my "account" in this pure legacy of 70 years what Lenny Kravitz. 3 albums and dozens of singles Must have high international ranking artist and an indisputable reputation. So after a fourth album, "Circus", shunned by the public (only two singles released for this one) Lenny landed with this album which, beyond its recurrent inspirations (Hendrix, Lennon, Stones) man embraces his time to appropriate the technology of this one. Fan of the first hour I had disapproved so the choice of Lenny off the beaten path. I was at first very afraid of losing all the time what attracted me to the artist and see this high tec side sweep the legacy he strove to convey. Instead of here man has reinvented while keeping the ingredients that had made him what he is: an extraordinary voice timbre, an inimitable groove, remarkable compositions and an undeniable feeling. With a very good production (pro tool having come replaced the old four track lol) and use of drum machines, "5" remains an album from soul, blues, funk and rock. The influences of Hendrix, Led Zeppelin are still there even though the keyboards sometimes give one side to Pink Floyd lol together. No need to go into detail because each song title alone is a tube. Lenny therefore opens new horizons while dusting his inspirations suddenly keyboard moog and programmed battery for a "5" which will remain as both a turning point and a cornerstone of his discography. A devour!
