In 1988, South of Heaven came out were quite a few fans on the new sound of Slayer Reign in Blood by dismay. Many found it too slow or too soft. Today natürlcih undeniable that even South of Heaven can claim a place in the top 100 metal albums of its own. But Seasons in the Abyss as well. Seasons in the Abyss brings a part of allseitgeliebten Reign in Blood but also continues the sound of South of Heaven again. The first song "War Ensamble" begins as Reign in Blood. fast and uncompromising. Songs like "Blood Red" would have on South of Heaven may be. The drums are wonderfully out listening and sound better than on South of Heaven. The riffs are again all einzigarteig, sophisticated and typical Slayer halt. Solo thunderstorm there one by one. Also on the album is no atmosphere there is no piece. It even has the densest of all until today. You hear only times to the upper burner and Dauerorwurm "Dead Skin Mask". Even the song Seasons in the Abyss has a similar atmosphere. The song is also similar in structure to "Hell Awaits" from the same album. Lyrically drive Slayer here rather twofold. Part it is bloody and Occult to but the majority of the songs deal with other issues as it already eg "Silent Scream" was the last album the case. So is "Expendable Youth", for example, from rival gangs.
Conclusion: An absolute Pfichtalbum for all who have a thing for Thrash. Absolute world class.
