Pluramon is more a concept than a group under which actually hides Marcus Schmickler, composer / guitarist / producer based in Cologne. "Dreams Top Rock" is the third album he released under the pseudonym after "Pick Up Canyon" in 1996 and "Render Bandits" in 1998, except for the compilation of remixes "Bit Sand Riders" (released 2000 and much less interesting in my humble taste). At first listen, "Dreams Top Rock" seems to break with the two previous games, for two reasons. First, Schmickler hosted a studio singer (the excellent Julee Cruise, the former muse of David Lynch with Blue Velvet and Twin peaks time, brings his little girl's voice); which is a first. Then, this record seems to turn its back on the apparent austerity of past experiments (Ah, those mixes abstract textures on rhythmic and guitar arpeggios!) To offer both a very Noisy Pop and Jazzy almost two ballads. Then later, we say that only Marcus Schmickler could make this album. We finally found it this taste for mounting "cut", film, songs, as well as the contrasts of dynamics and timbres. The colors of guitar riffs also still have his signature, even if they accumulate in well more mixes than before. The textures and granular sounds were somehow not totally disappeared even if they are no longer quite on a par with the recognizable instruments: guitars, drums, drum, organ, and even bass clarinet. The voice of Julee Cruise (who co-wrote three songs) is present on almost all songs, in various ways, singing a simple prisoner texture orchestration through the samples and loops. It softens the album and gives it a melancholy color she has the secret. After one week, this rather short album (less than 40 minutes, but the minutes of rare intensity!) Is domesticated and looping on my turntable, revealing themselves of great power and a disturbing beauty .
