:: Game & Story etc. ::
To say it right away: there is no real story, but a campaign mode. This consists of a handful of missions around the world, wild thrown together with no real connection, but with a time limit and different targets.
But before the actual start is game is the next-gen standard installation, but which proceeds more quickly and update downloads. After that you can only play once the 10 part tutorial or get straight into the campaign. Additionally, Zoo Tycoon still a free mode (optional together with friends), but at some point which is more or less self-terminated because simply can not be built by various limitations.
:: Graphics & Sound ::
Graphically Zoo Tycoon is really succeeded. It looks chic, the animals are great animated, moving absolutely realistic and if one only once fleetingly looked at the television, you'd think they were real. The zoo itself also looks nice from a mixture of realistic 3D and slightly cartoon-influenced graphic is atmospheric and very convenient. Approximately pity is that you can tinker his male or female character together only from a predefined number of specifications. Kinect Sports does before as the players sense scanned with Kinect and can be brought to life in the game.
The menus reflect the current flat tile design, are easy to read and also functional.
Musically discreet music is interspersed and otherwise bribe clear animal sound. Something else you would not expect from a zoo simulation also.
:: Gameplay ::
On gameplay the spirits cut. Is Zoo Tycoon a casual game or simulation? In fact nothing of the two it is somehow in between exactly in the middle. Every now and then are to find good simulation approaches and then plopping extremely simple, almost childish tasks such as feeding of any animal. Unlike real strategy games missing several options as the exact set of prices (here only low, medium, high, etc.) or create your own paths. Zoo Tycoon already takes the player from a lot, sometimes maybe too much. Placing an enclosure are automatically matching routes with constructed. Dead ends do not care that visitors do not run the risk of getting lost and whether a toilet is strategically well placed or hidden somewhere on the edge, did I feel that no difference.
All this would basically not bad, because the flow of the game is impressive. Constantly something happens and the player will entertain and motivated with a level up, new species, decorative objects or tasks. Were it not only extremely nested menus. Partial must be sought through 4 or 5 submenus replenish just an existing object in the exhibit or sell. This is unnecessarily complicated. In addition, no matter how fun tasks are added as to feed animals, what else is fun the first time and the second time, but later more annoying because it takes a long time and still needs to be made to its visitors to keep them happy.
But apart from that, one can not complain about the variety of objects, pens, and especially the great animated animals. There are around 100 different species that have to be explored mostly, can be classified according to its Zoo climates and decorate accordingly or simply bunch together all wild.
:: Conclusion ::
Why, despite the criticism 5 stars? Because Zoo Tycoon exudes incredible charm and one about the little mistakes like looks away. The game knows how to use his reward system perfectly. Almost constantly pops up a message and you get something new (even if one part actually already knows by the third zoo) and one is motivated to continue playing. The campaign is in accordance nice, but the full potential of playing Zoo Tycoon from outdoor play. A zoo of zero build is incredibly satisfying and although the zoo is quite strict limit, because I can see no less than over it. I love it just fun on the sofa at the TV to create my dream zoo and something to indulge in nostalgic memories of the simulation time in the 90.
