I was excited as a teenager by this music and bought the then board of Arista with the mix of 1978, I had heard umpteen times. The available on Amazon MP3 Download 'The Collectors Edition' therefore appeared particularly interesting to me, he promised yes additional sound material and according to the reviews and a super sound. The new material is really extensive and a must for any lover of film music. Sonically everything is mixed properly, I am not always so happy. This new compilation of the entire original material has a clean, but my feeling is sometimes a bit too dull and tough play. The upper strings shine sometimes simply not so and some tempi seem to me a little 'tough' rather than the 1978 recording. So the flight motif (No.4 from 1:14) affects not clear properly. Otherwise but very nice, so there are many details to hear, and the basses come across very clearly. Very good you can hear in the famous 5 Ton dialogue of Tuba kontrafagot Unisonos (no. 24) Both instruments clearly out, with the clatter of the contrabassoon flaps still mitgibt a touch of live music. The orchestral percussion in No.1 is just perfect.
Extensive audio material as possible in chronological order to offer on the claim, a musical review of the available MP3 downloads over the selection of must of course go to the background. The chronological sequence is not always equal muskalisch useful in film music. This results in some lengths that require a lot of leisure listening in any case partly difficult to access atonal and dissonant passages. In the film this fall not so significant, but also talking about the images.
The compressed 1978 version looks smoother and a lot of self-contained, but it begins with a proper idea of the important subjects in the manner of an overture and ends with a clearly recognizable Coda. Of course I did not expect the 1998 remix. But really disappointed I was when here at the end stylistically and musically quite inappropriate in the final piece No.26 'When you wish upon a star' in an almost kitschy Strings instrumentation, later with woodwind to literally be heard (in the no. 26 from 10:10). Of course, Williams has the first 8 sounds of this Disney-piece here varies (No. 26. 2: 51-4: 31) and then even quoted verbatim (No.26 4: 31-4: 40), yet it fits my feeling in of the present form and not destroyed in the end suddenly the sound impression you had throughout the movie music, even if it perhaps was in the original so. Too Bad. This was achieved on the board from 1978 with a coda from exactly the same place a lot better in the revive the most important issues briefly, and then the first final sentence of the final echo a (No.26 7: 06: 15-8) ,
It is worth mentioning that the famous 5 sound dialogue between the people and the aliens (No.24) in the original is different, as in the 1978 recording (The Conversation), where he had been somewhat shortened and simplified rhythmically.
Because of my Ersachtens occasional minmalen sonic shortcomings and because of the bad conclusion no 5 but only 4 stars. It is must for every fan because of the presented original diversity and but otherwise clean mix.
