My One And Only Thrill (Audio CD)

Customer Review

How do you get the "normal" music listeners to connect with jazz? Does one only age gracefully before one recognizes the advantages of a good jazz songs, or what is the secret of access to this form of music? If they know it, they tell me, I'm not so far been behind the Gehmeimnis. What I do know is that there are always exceptional musicians in the jazz area, creating a balance between jazz and popular music. With Melody Gardot can be added to the list of musicians a name. Namely, with an exclamation mark!

The US-American from New Jersey has the gift of soul, blues and jazz to go within seconds. She uses brilliantly the support of piano, broom (on the drum, of course), brass and strings. However, the music only plays second fiddle at Gardot-pieces. Indisputably the No.1 Melody is Gardots voice. Clear, accentuated, velvety like the purring of a cat, siren or equal strong and determined. With her Melody Gardot gets every sound in the desired direction. That's wonderful to hear and uniquely good.

After a serious car accident the singer is physically impaired and also noise and light sensitive. Their music does not diminish.
If they so far have always had their little problem with jazz, but still like a would hineinschnuppern times, then -My One and Only Thrill-is the ideal introduction for them. Guaranteed!

The Anspieltipps it is this time not so simple. All songs are almost uniformly good quality. -Baby I'm a fool- is an opener as one could wish him. With the charm of the 60s, a purist guitar, a few strings, the broom and Melody relentlessly playful voice. -Le Etoiles- sung in French, is a song in a class. In some places more breathy and cooed as sung Gardot presented here, the diversity of its extraordinary voice. -Our Love is easy- begins like a funeral march, climaxing in a wonderful love song into. -Who Wants comfort me- becoming the ultimate invitation to snap of the fingers and convinces with brilliant brass section. -Over The Rainbow- is transformed by Gardot in a cover version that you can hardly recognize the original first. Only after a few rhythms you can feel the creative realization of the cover. -Undercover- Could serve as a backing film scene with Bogart and Bacall. If there is such a thing as fantastic "Bar Music", then -Undercover- is a prime example.

I have become aware of Melody Gardot, when she had a live appearance at the N3 talkshow. Live to hear that voice, was a real treat. Maybe they hear just once into -My One and Only Thrill-. The chance of being completely thrilled is not exactly low.
