My first SSlim was a very unpleasant, high-frequency whistling / buzzing noise when you turn the BR-drive of what had also criticized several other customers. This was one reason for my rather quick return.
For about half a year now I have my second SuperSlim model. Due to a (Anno 2012) extremely reasonable offer from abroad, I could not resist!
The most important thing to me was the BR drive first. It can be done ... not a permanent high buzzing / whistling more out of the drive!
Unfortunately, the whole is not as well damped, so that the BR-operation already makes for a certain noise level. The access of the drive noises remind me in a weakened form of a bygone videogame generations ... PS1 and Dreamcast ruled! Depending on the game and the set volume, this can be a nuisance.
The fan noise of SuperSlim is hardly or not visible. Under full load (several hours playing etc.) is the fan still pleasantly quiet. After 3 hours in the "idle" (XMB) is heard almost nothing.
The mechanics of the drive or the operation does not like it so much. Despite my relatively slender hands can be seen from the fiddly discs. Moreover, in my opinion, the BR discs are now fingerprints and scratches at risk than at the slot-in versions. Then disc drive parts are exposed considerably more to external influences such as dust and dirt due to its conception.
The console looks visually quite appealing from what is but also "bought" with high fingerprint and scratch sensitivity. Even the dust from the grooves of the top mats could be a problem of the sliding mechanism in the long term if necessary. But that's only a vague conjecture. Care should therefore operate regularly.
The device is very light and super compact. The low power consumption is also an ever stronger argument the SuperSlim or Slim (predecessors) to use. Supplied with no HDMI cable is included, Sony actually sets still at a normal AV cable. If that make even the PS3 successor wirds getting ridiculous.
All in all, Sony received a great compromise between the sales price and comfort / quality. In the 12Gb version as the term is almost no storage capacity is saying. Fortunately, it is an "open" system that can be retrofitted to any standard 2.5-inch hard drive. For this you can buy a mounting bracket for 10 from the accessories range. (Caution Unofficially: The frame from the Slim versions should also be geeiget with a few simple changes Please only inform front Try.!)
Conclusion: The rule of thumb could be: The more favorable the SuperSlim is offered, depending overlooks happier / more than one hears some disadvantages of top loading principle. For players who take their games mainly in digital form (via PS Store), this version + additional hard drive is really highly recommended. Physical disks with no major pre-installation (for example, WRC 3, Call of Duty series, etc.) cause noise due to the permanent drive access.
For drive-intensive games, I continue to use my already repeatedly reanimated PS3-40GB (Bj.2007) which thereby provides still their right to exist (and then purchase price + Spare parts f. Repair) proving. The sounds are of course there, but just dull what zummindest with me is more suitable for "failure to hear".
