Since the benefits have already been described to satisfy, I will confine myself to the not so good things. Which are - depending on the focus - for a purchase decision Sometimes more important than what is working great.
1. Internal memory
There are after commissioning "only" about 140 MB for installing apps. The rest is consumed by HTC's own apps, etc. that do not also can be without root rights to uninstall. An installation of apps on SD card is not supported from copyright reasons of Android yet. A "normal" app currently has usually between 10k and 2MB (it can sometimes even be 20MB for large apps - eg navigation systems). Data store the programs normally made to the SD card. So Sounds only times as you would have enough room for their own apps. However, I have after 2 weeks already only 60 MB free. Assuming that apps (just like normal programs) over time are rather larger, we have a problem. I hope Google will find a solution.

Note 09:05:10 (in response to comments):
This is not a Desire- but an Android specific problem, due to legal problems when saving apps on the SD card (Copyright). The iPhone has these problems why not not, because of its internal memory (here are the full possibly 32GB for apps) does not come ran. However, the Desire has currently the largest internal memory of all Android Phones.

2. The display
So great (!), It is indoors, so it is useless outside in sunlight. Without the display by hand to cover one looks really nothing. A peculiarity of the AMOLED display which are well used, sooner or later in all phones.
3. The built-in speakers
In short: For handsfree unusable. Clinks and clatters like crazy. For occasional YouTube video you go but the phone is's really bad. Since then rather with headset. Which brings us to the next topic:
4. The headset
MJA. Goes so. For telephoning OK but in music one misses much bass. Since the accessories are probably pleased dealer. In addition, I feel it as something bulky. The micro-contrast, seems OK. My interlocutor had no complaints.
5. The voice quality when making calls (listen without headphones)
Here divorced probably the spirits. I have some forums sighted in this regard, as I do not think so hot and wanted to know how others see the works: Some find the voice quality super, the other totally modest. Similar to polarizing statements I have so rarely seen. Is probably a matter of where you come from. I come from a SonyEricson Stupid- Phone and because the voice quality was much better in my opinion. The Desire sounds very tinny in my ears.
6. Annoying little things (subjective)
Since I have only one thing: The Desire informed one by flashing an LED on new mails, etc. But this only works when the phone is not dependent on the charging cord. Then the LED is namely either time-Yellow (loading) or time-green (when battery full). Result: If the thing invites, I always look like I have a new email ... bugging me.
Off Topic - Finally, a tip:
I had - of course, first installed a Task Manager (Advanced Task Killer) - as Windows users accustomed. Everything set so that all unused tasks are killed either by pressing a button or turning off the display. After I read that something with Android rather than interfere help I uninstalled it. Result: The battery lasts longer and now I have no more stress. Who's interested: information on the memory management of Android's to satisfy the web.
Conclusion: A total of 4 points for the impressive qualities in speed, screen (in-house) and surface (HTC). Since the Desire can convince genuine. One point deduction for the disadvantages in the areas of free calling, voice quality and memory for Apps.
