As explanation and understanding, here is my description of the EXR 221:
An existing house system (satellite dish with universal LNB, Kathrein distributor) depends, inter alia, a Kathrein Twin Receiver (UFS 913).
Problem when connecting previously: A tuner is fully powered. If you want to record on the second tuner, you can only choose limited programs (depending on the current program on Tuner 1).
If one uses the Kathrein EXR 221, both tuners are fully catered, even though the receiver depends only with a wire to the terminal. That one looks X program and can simultaneously record the program Y.
Provided, however, that one can dispense with two connectors from the distributor (eg 8x Matrix and only 6 ports occupied).
Assembly:
Easy as in the instructions. Two satellite cable (as short as possible) from the matrix to the EXR 221 and the cable to be supplied connection - that's it.
For me, no network connection (power) was necessary and also no changes to the receiver (Kathrein halt ;-)
It worked immediately.
So now back to UFS913:
Image: Very good (Public TV channels in HD, etc.) via HDMI
Sound: a stereo - super
Connectors: LAN, 2x TV (see above), HDMI, RCA, USB
Software:
-After Update it surrender the Smart TV function later
EPG (program guide: straightforward and functional) One can get information about the program, select programs for recording, switch and so on ...
-Setting Of network attached storage (NAS) has in me any problems works (QNAP NAS). Now you can Terrabyteweise broadcasts via network (I recommend Gigabit LAN) record. A small hook: If you have recorded the program on a hard drive, they can not easily to another location (new hard drive etc.) to copy. Because then place the receiver these records no longer :-( You must copy each film from one location to another.
USB port: I run an external hard drive to the USB port. This is necessary to allow time-shifted TV. That means you can always press pause and then resume watching at any time (time shift) while watching a program. My impression is that the receiver also sets data on the external hard drive from which he needed for the recordings on the NAS connected via LAN (behold above). Therefore, I believe that despite the NAS in the LAN should also attach an external HD.
Due to the many possibilities (to stream music from the server, Smart TV function, etc.) moults the receiver for media center in the home network. These describe here would lead too far.
For my needs, a great device!
