Customer Review

Great comeback by Miles Davis after the release of The man with the horn in 1981, with a rock band than ever and also more stripped that in the 70 On this live album, recorded during various concerts in the United UNite and Japan, released in 1982, we find Marcus Miller on bass, new companions; Al Foster on drums already there in 1972.
The sound is quite marked 80 years with this special slap bass that does not always manages to give roundness necessary orchestration, but which is the MM's trademark. Mike Stern, guitarist discovered by MD who was already playing on The man with the horn, is in his flamboyant guitar solos; and Miles Davis left the wha-wha pedal to find the sound a bit more natural to his muted trumpet. A more mixed impression with regard to Bill Evans on sax (not to be confused of course with pianist Bill Evans which was part of the formation of Miles Davis Kind of Blue in 1959) we hear less and less bewitches than other soloists. And to complete the rhythm section, Mino Cinelu percussion.
It falls back to basics in several respects. First, a continuation of The man with the horn, a new taste for melodies, sometimes very simple, as Jean-Pierre (named after one of his son) jingles child accents and is a original creation (we do not find this title on any studio album, but a few measures on You're under Arrest, released later in 1985, in the final Medley). This is the case of two other titles, Fast Track and Kix, while Back Seat Betty is from The Man with the Horn. Then, a bit of nostalgia with an excerpt from Porgy and Bess, My man's gone now - which had never happened in his many lives out in the 70 'with a very different course from that of orchestration Gil Evans. The whole gives an exceptional album, which has also been rewarded with a Grammy when it was released.
