Once Element of Crime had "Back behind the moon" changed with the language, they found the "White Paper" finally their style. Musically mature than its predecessor, this album holds beautiful pieces with wonderful, speaking from the soul texts ready. In most cases it is of course again to love: In "White Paper", the end of a relationship from the perspective of the Left is sung in "The choice is yours" the addressee before the momentous decisions will determine whether the singer should be run over by train or they prefer to take him as her lover. "It may be that it's kind of stupid, but nothing is as dreary as a summer alone". About all the songs but enthroned "Outside behind the window". Probably this is the best German pop song. The intro is from a backyard therefore blown, then come the guitars, Schießlich uses everything, trumpets, accordion, drums, and created an atmosphere like in a black and white film of the late twenties. These Sven Regener's delightfully quirky text ("from the pool get those who are not drowned"), which in the wonderful chorus "We're stuck here, whatever happens - confused, lazy and love" culminates. In the end it's all about out, pull out the instruments from the ear canal out into nothingness. (By the way: madness, what a great musical development had gone through the element since 1985 ...) I have no words to describe this song adequately, it is simply beautiful. After this album has been tried often compared to the Brecht / Weill. Others speak of the spirit of Nick Cave or Lou Reed. Ultimately, however, does not help get over, acknowledge: "White Paper" is one of the greatest rock albums ever, and it's probably the greatest work of its kind in the German language. By the way, it is also the album that has given me in my life the most ... (PS: Incidentally, Element of Crime no "Ossi-band", but all the musicians from the old FRG come - the changes to the quality of the album, of course not ...)
